Tools and Hardware Reviews of DeLonghi TRN0812T Portable Oil-Filled Radiator with Programmable TimerCustomer Review: Great for the bedroom Summary: 5 Stars
I've had this one for about 3 months now and must say that it works great. We turn ours on in our bedroom at night on just about high and so far we've only seen an increase of about $4 in our monthly power bill this winter. The last week or so with the temp. outside staying around 35 or so at night it keeps our larger sized master bedroom at about 75 degrees after it's been on for about an hour. It's not as powerful as the TRD0715T( which has 1500 watts' vs. the 0812T which has 1250) but honestly after about an hour I'm often waking up to turn the temp. down a few anyways on the warmer nights. On the nights this winter where we had about -5 degree weather leaving the unit on just about high kept the room at about 72 degree's even when we had the thermostat to the house turned down to about 60. It's great for rooms where you can close the door and leave it shut!
I've also seen several complaints about the unit getting hot....while yes it is a heater, you can still touch it. I've taken my hand several times and held it on the heater after it's been at high heat for about two hours and have been able to hold it for about 20 seconds before having to pull my hand away. While yes I'm sure it will scare a little one (we've got an 20 month year old in the room with us) and they will cry some in pain, I really don't think it would be enough to cause any marks on their skin. On that note however.....ours is tucked away in a corner and our eye's always are extra close on her whenever she's in that area.
Customer Review: Works great with proper placement Summary: 5 Stars
I bought this 2 winters ago for our finished second floor (of a 1 1/2 story house).
Basically a converted attic, split into 2 rooms. The space is insulated, and has a small energy efficient window at each end...but no source of heat.
At first I put the radiator in the doorway between the 2 rooms .We use one room as an office/storage area, and the other as a TV lounge/music listening room. The radiator could not sufficiently heat both areas. Then, I moved it so it was under the window of the TV lounge. Awesome! Despite having good windows, cold air still seems to permeate the glass. The cold air falls and is warmed by the radiator. I can keep the radiator on low, set the timer for periods of actual use, and keep the room very toasty.
I got a second radiator for the other window, and do the same thing. Both rooms are very toasty when we are home and occupying them.
As an experiment, I tried the radiator in our unfinished basement, which we use as our music rehearsal space. Radiator could not keep up. Too much competition from concrete floor and block walls, and it's too big a space. I created a room by hanging curtains around our rehearsal space . Bought a Lasko ceramic heater with oscillator. It does a good job.
So, the Delonghi radiator does a great job in a finished space when you place it where the coldest air is getting in. Do your best to seal any drafts with caulk or weatherstripping, then put the radiator in that area...not the middle of the room.
Customer Review: Warmed & comfy... Summary: 5 Stars
Size is perfect for under a desk, safe if you accidently touch it briefly... keeps feet & legs warm .... I leave den door open, and heat raises the entire house temp about 3 degrees... I was amazed, since this is a med-big house ... Settings can be put on Min, Med, or High to control electric usuage .... Programmer tells the unit when to run & when to shut off, so you can have a toasty room BEFORE you wake up, or you can skip using the timer at all, if you prefer.... Third knob is a thermostat ranging numbers from 1-6.... When temp feels "just right", you turn thermostat till you hear a CLICK, then unit will maintain that temp ... I do like the GFI built-in, but it is 'picky'.... Manuf says to have ONLY this heater plugged into one outlet.... If you try an addition plugged in anything, the GFI shuts right off... So.... you need a dedicated plug in for just this heater (not a fuse box, simply a reg elec outlet).... Manuf says NOT to use extension cord nor strip-plug as it nulls the GFI capability against over-heating and possible fire hazard... I feel this oil-filled heater will provide many years of maintenance-free use, and is the safest type in the industry at this time ... Amazon fulfilled free shipping was the clincher ... No regrets purchasing
Customer Review: Greatest thing since sliced bread! Summary: 5 Stars
I bought a house that seriously needed work. I had to fix multiple plumbing and electrical issues, holes in the roof, on and on...but the heating system was shot, too rusted (and too much $$$ to fix just yet). I have about 500 sq. feet on the first floor with 3 rooms & half-bath, and 500 sq. feet on the top floor. Right now I have the top floor closed off and with 2 of these heaters in the two 13 x 15 rooms I've been able to keep things toasty warm and I only have it set at 2! Now, true, it's not gotten below 27 degrees, I only have 8' ceilings and we've only had lows of 30s for maybe 3 days here and 3 days there, but I'm really impressed with the comfort these heaters have maintained. I started out with a setting of 6 thinking I needed some serious output to keep the rooms warm at freezing temps outside, but like I said, I've had to dial it down to a 2 to be comfortable. And my cat loves the warm floor in front of it to take her catnaps on. She hasn't been able to knock it over either and she makes serious attempts to knock everything over! lol I love this heater and will eventually buy 2 more for the upstairs. Really like the built-in CGFI too. I don't worry about leaving these on for my dog and cat while I'm at work.
Customer Review: Fantastic Heater and Money Saver Summary: 5 Stars
DeLonghi TRN0812T Oil-Filled Radiator This is a fantastic heater, especially for the money. It does not blow hot air with a noisy fan (there is no fan) but rather heats an entire room and then some. It never had any smell as some reviewers have stated, but just quietly sits there making a 15 x 19 bedroom and ajoining master bath very warm while only using a maximum of 1200 watts. I have quartz heaters, regular fan type heaters, but this is my first oil heater and I will be replacing the others with this same heater. When temperatures do not go below 30 degrees, you can use the maximum 500 or 700 watt setting to keep the area around 75 degrees. Amazing how something can be so efficient, quiet, and not smelly. Very easy to program for on and off times and safe to use in a bathroom. I have other quartz DeLonghi heaters that are great too, but they only heat a specific area and they are a little noisy and use a whole lot more energy to produce heat. It is very nice to walk anywhere in a room and be warm in every part, whereas you do not get that with other types of space heaters.
