Tools and Hardware Reviews of Dimplex CS3311 Compact Electric Stove

Customer Review: disappointed
Summary: 5 Stars

I was all excited when I received the stove and couldn't wait to use it. Easy to setup just plug it in, it heats up alot of space and this is from two 25 watt bulbs. So I am thinking this will be great to take the chill off on the cool mornings in my apartment and...then my lips began to get numb and I had a awful chemical taste in my mouth, still not sure why I was having problems and I began to get lightheaded. I am thinking oh, no not the stove. I get on my computer to search more I found one review on a site where this lady was replacing the gas logs in her fireplace. She made a statement to the installer about an odor when she first turns it on, he said yes it does and it then goes away, she said it did, then he went on to say not like the electric fireplaces or stoves...to make the styroform black and to look like real logs burning some type of paint or chemical is applied on them. This is only the styroform logs not the ceramic ones. I had my answer an that was why I was having problems. I am allergic to the styroform and the paint or chemical that is used on the logs. I was very disppointed that I was unable to use the stove. I can't return it because I didn't no I would have problems so of course out went the box, also their is freight to send it back so it now sits in a friends apartment who isn't interested in buying it. I even turned it on in his apartment to make sure it was the stove and not something in my apartment. I had the same reaction so I knew then it was me. Even with it out of my apartment it did take a while for the odor to go away. It is a nice stove and works great. The issue is with me and not the stove. One last thing and I want to make this clear the stove works great, the logs look real and it even has a look of smoke thats coming from the logs. It gets a 5 star rating from me.

Customer Review: Pays For It Self In Savings Quickly
Summary: 5 Stars

We purchased this Heater on Feb. 21, 2010 and had it by the 23rd. As soon as it arrived I opened it up and set it up in front of our fireplace. The room space it sits in is 28' x 24' and it contains the thermostat for the Oil heat which we actually burn Kerosene. It is a little more expensive but cleaner and better of heating system. We paid $154.00 for this heater I believe and since I didn't have to buy anymore Kerosene it saved me $200.00 I would have had to put in the tank. My electric bill only went up about $30.00. We turned it on again on Halloween weekend and only turned thermostat up if it was a cool night and Grand Kids stayed. We just did get our Electric Bill. Our last bill that was Due December 3, 2010 was 97.04 our bill due January 2, 2011 is 126.65. Not only have there been many times that I had it turned all the way up, unless it was a really warm day where the sun warmed the house the heater has been on at times 24 hours a day. The room stays between 71 and 74 depending on outside temps. Our house heat is cut back to 65 degrees and only if we have turned heater off and want to warm house quickly do we turn it on. Otherwise it is only turned up to 70 if Grand Kids stay to warm the bedroom they sleep in. I am thinking of purchasing another one to heat my large kitchen which will help to warm rooms off from it. With a second one I might not have to use the house heater at all and with fuel cost like they are that would be really nice. Also on the bill due in January I purchased an Electric Roaster to Roast our Thanksgiving turkey in this year. I have used that for roasting chickens, baking muffins, baking Sweet Potato yeast rolls and even pumpkin pie. So that bill reflex the added electric use from that also.

Customer Review: best purchase I have made this winter!
Summary: 5 Stars

I purchased this electric stove after looking for some kind of moveable electric heating source. Lightweight (I have lots and lots of stairs), quiet, and style were the things I had to weigh along with the reviews from other customers. This Dimplex stove had many great reviews that raved about the noise level and that it actually worked. I have an attic bedroom with 20 ft ceilings and heated only by a gas fireplace that my landlord had to disconnect due to a leak on the fireplace itself. I wasn't sure if this little stove was going to be enough to heat the entire area, but I am happy to report that after 2 months of cold (and now extreme freezing cold) it keeps the attic bedroom very comfortable and warm. The remote is extremely handy for those nights when I get either too cold or warm and need to turn the heater off or on. It's super quiet and stays cool on top, which is great since I cats and I don't want to worry all the time about burned kitty feet. I have it on hardwood floors and I don't have any problems with it. Because the heat comes out the bottom, if you have carpet or are worried about the floors getting too hot, you might want to think about placing tiles under it (I did this for the 2nd one I bought to put in my living area due to the long piled carpet and it works great).

This is a great product for the price. Whether you are looking for a primary heating source or a secondary source to help lower the gas bills, this is a great buy. It is sturdy (has a completely solid feel), lightweight enough that a woman could move it with no problem (even up and down stairs), has a great style that goes with almost any decor, and is one workhorse of a heater. I love this thing and recommend it to everyone.

Customer Review: Great wood stove alternative!
Summary: 5 Stars

I went searching for a woodstove this summer-to offset frighteningly high oil costs. I was upset to find that my rooms are too small--and apparently rafters and clearance are a big issue! To console myself I went online to look for a nice looking electric fireplace-a friend had purchased a more expensive wood mantel type. I found this one, read the reviews and decided to give it a try. It is small and will definitely fit just about anywhere-if space is an issue-this is nice. I have had other heaters-"and electric log, the oil filled radiator, and one of those that rotates and blows hot air-they all work well-but this one is the prettiest and you can leave it in your room year round, thanks to the option of a no heat "fire".

The fire effect is pretty realistic (better than my friend's pricey one)and I feel it is pretty safe-it has a blower underneath-so the top and sides stay cool (nice if you have cats and kids) I'm thinking of making a fake hearth for it because the floor does get a little warm under it. I wouldn't put a rug under it.

As for heating capacity-it takes awhile to heat an area up-but if you leave it on, it can heat a large area-I have it in the center of an open floor plan 1100 sq ft house-I have left it on overnight so I don't have to turn on the furnace-keeps the room it is in nice and toasty and the bedroom is a bit cooler(perfect!). I got my first electric bill and after leaving it on for about 7 nights, all night-no major change in my bill! I haven't tested it in the dead of winter yet-but I feel that it will definitely help with the bills! hey-and no lugging logs!

Customer Review: I'm in love with my little toaster...
Summary: 5 Stars

I've had this little gem for about a week now, and I've really enjoyed the heck out of it. I'm not one to really turn the heater on, as it feels stuffy to me-- usually I just bundle up in blankets and sweaters. But then I got to thinking that my little doggies that sleep next to my bed were probably cold. Plus I was just plain sad that there's no fireplace in the new house I just bought.
So, I researched different electric fireplaces, and settled on this one. I was just looking for one that I could enjoy in my bedroom at night, and could move into my retreat room where I do a lot of reading. Let me tell you, this little guy is awesome!!! I have a relatively large bedroom, that open up into the retreat room, and a bathroom. When I close the door, and pop on this little toaster, within an hour or so the room get nice and warm. The other night, it got so warm, I grabbed my remote which was bedside, and had to turn it off. It was the night Texas got hit with the freeze-- hello 28 degree weather. I would never have guessed it.
I know my little fireplace is pretty powerful, because after getting ready in the mornings, when I open my bedroom door to go downstairs, I'm hit with a draft of chilly air. The rest of the house is coooold.

I'm really happy with this fireplace. I even downloaded a fireplace crackling sound file and popped it on my ipod, which I play when I'm reading. It really sets the mood-- so nice and comfy. The thermostat is also a very nice bonus. If you're hesitating on getting this, hesitate no more. It's a great investment, at a very reasonable price!
