Tools and Hardware Reviews of Dimplex CS3311 Compact Electric StoveCustomer Review: I LOVE this stove! Summary: 5 Stars
In Seattle, I moved to a corner apartment with electric heat. It has one vent/thermostat in each bedroom and one in the living area. It always seemed chilly in the living area no matter how high I had the heat. I got this stove, and literally took it out of the box and plugged it in. (love that I can turn it on with the remote). I run this stove during the evening for about an hour or so and I have not had to turn my heat on since! This heat "travels" better .. so I haven't had to turn the heat on in the bedrooms either. I can't explain it, but this little stove heats my whole apartment better than the heat that comes with the apartment! I used to keep my heat on 55 when I left for work and I'd come home and it would be kicking on. Now I have all the thermostats to zero, and my apartment is still warmer than before. I need to get an indoor thermometer, eh?
I just can't say enough about this. My grocery delivery guy saw it and goes - now that is cool! The flames are as mesmerizing as real flames, and it just adds a nice ambiance to the room. But I like it for it's practicality! Not using my heat in the last month has saved me more than I spent on the stove!
It's small, lightweight, no flaws on it when I removed it from the packaging. Some reviewers say "cheaply made", etc., but c'mon .. you're not going to get cast iron for this price! It looks great. It doesn't get hot. I have it on carpet and have not had a problem in a month (and it's been used every single day for that month).
Customer Review: An Excellent Heater For The Price Summary: 5 Stars
I live on the basement floor of my home and needless to say it can get quite cold during the Fall and Winter months of the year. I have been looking around for a suitable product that fit my needs, when I finally stumbled upon this product while on Amazon. It seemed almost instinct to buy the Dimplex CS3311 as soon as the product appeared on the page, the stove had quite a unique charm to it, unlike many generic white heaters I see being peddled around, and the multitude of positive reviews took any uncertainty I had out of this purchase. When the heater arrived via UPS about 5 days later I was thrilled to find out that it was pre-assembled and that it was virtually ready right out of the box.
*PROS*
+ Warmer than most run of the mill heaters.
+ Much cheaper than I expected
+8 cents per hour with heat
+3 cents per hour with just flame
+ The flame looks quite lifelike in all lighting situations except in direct sunlight
+ It can heat up a 300sq ft area in a little over 2 hours
+ The casing is made of metal, not plastic
+ It is light enough for most people to move easily
+ Remote control
*CONS*
- Makes a strange noise when the fan kicks on when turned on, but goes away in a couple of seconds
- May be too small than some would like
Overall I am very pleased with this heater and I would certainly recommend this to anyone wanting an electric heater.
Customer Review: Wonderful little stove! Perfect for mobile home! Summary: 5 Stars
This stove is everything I wanted. It heats up my living room/kitchen area nicely and saves me energy not having to heat the whole house much - just the area I'm in most often. The look is exceptional (especially for the price). People will not mistake it for the real thing, (except right at first,) but everyone has said it is one of the most realistic electric stoves they have seen. The design and materials are authentic-looking, but on a smaller scale than any true wood stove I've ever seen. The fan is quiet and the different heat/no heat options are convenient and easy to use (two switches and a dial). I literally took it out of the box, plugged it in and turned it on. That was it. It adds so much to my mobile home with that warm glow and extra heat. I am considering one for my bedroom now and my parents are buying one for their add-on "office" in their vacation cottage. I would recommend this model to anyone with a small area (probably a bedroom/office/sitting room in a regular home) that you want a little extra warmth and a nice ambiance without the expense and hassle of installing a real wood/gas stove or fireplace. It might look small in a normal-sized room, though, so if there is a larger model, you may want to consider that....or building/purchasing a faux fireplace facade to insert it into, as I read one reviewer saying she did.
Customer Review: It's Amazing Summary: 5 Stars
The other comments don't exaggerate. Beautiful, and realistic flames. I've never seen anything quite like it.
The heat will surely heat a large room -- it's barely fall here, so little chance to really test it out. But, while testing, I can feel heat across a fairly large room, maybe (trying to trig it) .. maybe 18 or 19 feet? And I feel it on my ankles, not blowing all over the place where it will do little good.
What else. OH! The heat itself IS hot. Ok, how hot? I was pricing "hearth" material to put under it, to make it more realistic. Well, granite is really expensive! :) But, while pricing out polished granite-like plastics, I ran into the temperature max, so I put a digital meat thermometer under it. Within maybe a minute, I couldn't hold it, and it was at 180 degrees, and climbing. It puts out nice heat.
It's just a great little .. thing .. a wood stove-like, fireplace-like, heater that's really nice.
[Edit] Oh, I forgot: I'll have to disagree with the other comments about the smaller / cheaper model being better. Cheaper is always nice, but that one has no thermostat. So, unless you're going to run this model wide-open anyway, save yourself some big change on the electric bill, and go with a thermostat. It's quick responding too.
Customer Review: Fun Little Stove Summary: 5 Stars
The Dimplex CS3311 Compact Electic Stove has the same great flame-effect technology as other Dimplex products. There just simply is no better "artificial flame" at this price, and probably not at a higher price either.
I purchased this heater more for looks than for heat, but the added heat may come in handy too. It's fun to put a basket of wood by the stove to add to the illusion. Speaking of "illusion, Dimplex in the UK sells an optional, fake "stove pipe" to use with the Dimplex stoves. This isn't available in the U.S., but if you're creative, you could probably improvise your own. We also use a KrackleBox sound system purchased separately for the realistic crackle sound, and a candle with a woodburning scent from Kinfolk Candle for that great fireplace aroma.
My only other suggestion is that the stove looks best in an area with a neutral floor color because the mirror at the back of the "fire compartment" picks up the color of the floor and gives away the illusion, if it's in a room with a blue carpet, for example. At night that isn't a problem, and the flame effect is very realistic. This is a very cute little stove-- warm and cozy! I also like the heat adjustment options, including no heat at all!
