This nice looking electric space heater is extremely quiet and highly effective at heating one large room with the doors shut. No electric space heater can do better than that, and I think this may addresses low star reviews' complaints about it not heating a room -- perhaps they are trying to heat an entire house? A space heater in a room with doorways open to many other rooms quickly becomes ineffective, no matter what model you choose.
This unit appears to be entirley silent, and unit puts out very effective heat without the noise. The feature that appeals to me the most is that this is an extremely nice looking space heater. The faux burning logs are particularly well done. The flames are nice, too. My husband (who examined both models carefully) says that the smaller model's flames look better, and this model's logs look better.
The heat comes out close to the floor, but pointed toward the front of the unit. We tested this heater with paper on the floor underneath, and the paper did not get unduly warm. So it seems safe enough.

I was determined not to go through another "very cold winter" so again I started looking for more then just a heater. I have limited room in my galley kitchen which is very cold as I have a "doggie door" for my dogs to go in and out. I was using a ceramic heater which was effective but had NO charm. This heater/fireplace and kitchen accent piece is beautiful charming and everything you could want plus functional and quiet. I got the remote and put velcro on it so it adherses to inside my kitchen cabinet with the other remotes. Even if this didn't heat which it does VERY nicely I would get it for just the looks and to watch the flame as I cook and get that at home feeling. I have always had a real fireplace and this flame has memerized me as so true to life. I added a few ceramic stones to the logs and gave it a more "ember" burning look, just because I felt it was so real I could add a log. I have relaxed to just watch the flame but also know I made a wise purchase thanks to the many positive reviews and my own.Customer Review: Dimplex CS3311 Electric Heater (electralog)

We heat the house using mostly a wood stove, but from Dec 1st - March 15th, we turn the gas furnace on, set at 58, just to maintain a minimum temperature and keep the chill away when the wood dies down during the night. One bedroom tends to miss out on the heat from the wood and doesn't warm up enough because the location of the thermometer tends to kick off before that room completely gets the chill out. In central Wisconsin, the frost has arrived and we were looking for a supplemental heat source for that room. While smaller than expected when we took it from the box, it is perfect. It has the look of cast iron, the fan is quiet, the flame couldn't be more realistic, and it heats the 14x14 bedroom (which has a ceiling fan) exactly as we had hoped. We raised the unit off the carpet by placing a couple ceramic tiles underneath. Psychologically it feels like the heat comes out better and we don't think about the carpet getting too warm. We also shopped around and found the units vary by ~ $100.

We like this unit a lot. If you buy a 1500 watt unit, remember that it is limited as to how much it can heat. Our house is old and it is cold where we live in the winters. We bought this unit to go into our old fireplace (which we don't use any more). It looks great, works like a charm, is cool to the touch, stable, & offers a quiet heater. Our one major complaint is the thermostat control knob. It has no reference marks for setting the thermostat and the knob is on the back. If the unit is in the fireplace (or tucked in somewhere), it makes it difficult to change the thermostat setting. Our house is small, so it was a thrill to find a smaller unit that was reasonably priced, looks great, offers a nice looking flame, works just like any decent 1500 watt heater works, is safe for kids and pets, and was shipped quickly, packed well, and had no defects when it arrived. Unbelievable. We ordered them (2) on Sunday and they arrived on Tuesday. Yes, 2 days! And they are everything that all the reviews said they would be! We have them in our 107 yr. old Queen Anne Victorian in Margaretville, NY. One in the den, and one in the kitchen. We got interested in this concept after seeing a really crappy one at BJ's Wholesale in Mass. when visiting our son. So, what did we do? Surfed and this seemed to suit our needs. Boy does it ever! Totally easy to set up, has a great flame look (not like the website picture, they had to enhance that) and you really have to turn the heat down for one room or it gets waaay to hot. This has to be better than central heating when you really only live in a few rooms. Why heat the hallways and other areas where you rarely are? We are building a couple of hearths from some slate shingles that were on the house at one time. Will do add-on review when they are done.
