I bought the more expensive model after purchasing the smaller unit and
I am very pleased with both. This unit has a nicer log arrangement and the
door swings open (you must resist the urge to place another log on or stick a marshmallow in the flames)! The remote control is a nice addition. The
psychological effect of viewing a fire makes you feel warmer even before
turning on the heat. I replaced the 2 60-watt bulbs with 7-watt night lights and see no difference in the flame effect. Within minutes of turning on the heat, my bedroom is nice and toasty! I love the fact that no surface gets hot..my cats even sit on it. The heat blows out from the bottom and warms the entire room quickly! I love it!

I love the mellow glow of the logs, and the fire effect is realistic for this price range. I leave the "fire" on every evening just for the atmosphere.
The heater (which has a separate switch from the fireplace) is powerful and very quiet. The thermostat takes some fiddling; the instructions tell you to listen for a click, but it's difficult to hear. But once it's set you're good to go.
Aside from the thermostat, there's no setup at all. Just lift it out of the box, plug it in, and turn it on.
The unit itself has a substantial feel, with a powder-coated finish and a bit of weight to it. I can still carry it easily from room to room.
I'm very pleased with the value.

I'm a lover of real wood burning fireplaces, however I have a gas fireplace that came with the new home I purchased. My family room is in the basement & is always very chilly, especially in the winter. I bought this thinking it would look a little fake but may help take off the chill and to my surprise, it heats my HUGE family room (ten foot ceilings) and I'm floored that this cute little stove warms the entire room! I have to say with all honesty, the flames look real and I'm pretty picky! I did a lot of research before making this purchase, looked at many different vendors and heard this manufacturer was the best and this product was highly rated. I recently bought a new home and wanted an extra heat source for downstairs in the basement. The Family Room and my daughter's bedroom are downstairs. Plus, I wanted whatever I bought to look like a piece of furniture. This Dimplex unit is everything I wanted and more! It looks very classy--I was afraid the 'flames' may look cheesy, but they don't at all. Several people have thought it was a real fire until I told them different. I bought two flat stones at Lowe's to put underneath it to give it a 'hearth' look--it really adds to the authenticity. I am seriously considering buying another unit for my upstairs. I never spend the time to write a review, but can't procrastinate this time. When a product is great it needs to be recognized! This stove is all that previous 5 star raters said. Once the thermostat is set the heat stays at the set range with little temperature change and we are heating about 700 square feet of our living room/dining room! We had radiant heating in the ceiling of our nice beach home which went bad and no way to repair. I bought this heater to place in front of our fireplace. When the heater is on I'm amazed by how well the heater duplicates a real fire. When the heater is off, it appears that embers are still smoldering. What more can I say???
