Tools and Hardware Reviews of Dirt Devil 082700 Vision Turbo Canister VacuumCustomer Review: Dirt Devil Sports car Summary: 5 Stars
This was the first vacuum I've owned. The house I live in now is mostly wood floors, which is why I bought a canister vacuum (they just do better than uprights for hard floors). This does a great job on the hardwood floors! However, I do have some rugs and a carpeted room. The vacuum still performs well, but it needs a bit more attention than it would if I had an upright. The canister does require frequent emptying. I empty it about every other room (My house has 3 people and a cat, if that helps) and I vacuum weekly. Emptying the canister is important, as I can see a marked improvement in suction after I empty the canister. I also really like the attachments. I can dust my book shelves and wood trim around the house with just a sweep of the wand. The vacuum is also supposed to have places for the attachments, but I don't use the holders - I just keep them in a bag with the vacuum. Another thing, the wand on the vacuum isn't made of steel, so it can bend - don't step on it like I accidentally did. The attachments still fit, but I just have to push harder. I suppose if it bends out of shape easily, one could bend it back just as easily. The vacuum is light and easy to pick up. Something I do run into is that it doesn't turn corners well (ex. if I'm going through a doorway into another room, the wheels stick out a bit so I often get snagged on the door frame).
Recap (with a few additions):
Pros - light weight, works well on hard floors, attachments are useful for dusting and such, easy to empty canister, retractable cord, continuum of suction intensity,no need to buy vacuum bags
Cons - should empty canister often (I don't mind, but I think some people would), no light on vacuum head, some extra attention needed for carpeted floors (but then again, it's not an upright which are recommended for carpets), wheels stick out and can get snagged on corners and door frames
Overall I like the vacuum and it fits my needs.
Customer Review: WOW way better than expected ! Summary: 5 Stars
I just got this vacuum a few days ago. I was a bit skeptical when I opened the box, its much smaller and lighter than my heavy old eletrolux that had just died before I ordered this one, but it was here and I needed to vacuum the house, so I figured I may as well take it for a test drive. Assembly was a breeze just plug in the hose, snap on the wand and cleaning head. I did the carpet in my living room first, and was impressed with how much power it had. I stopped to read the instructions on how to empty it and tried that too. Very easy just press a button and lift it out, press another button and it opens to empty. I was shocked to see how much it had already picked up ! After that I went ahead and did the whole house. I really like that the variable power control is on the handle and not the canister, the tools and heads are easy to change, and the cord rewinds with the touch of a button. I'm glad I picked this one, its easier to use and picks up even better than my old vacuum. One minor drawback the container that traps the dirt is fairly small and will have to be emptied everytime its used, but its so quick and easy to do , I don't think thats a big deal.
Customer Review: At last! Summary: 5 Stars
I have looked a long time for a can vac that was powerful enough for my needs, but came without a power head. We have mostly tile floors, and need a wand head that can slide under the furniture, and bonus, this one can articulate to a 90 degree angle to the wand, to fit in small spaces. Can't do that with a power head. The suction is so good that it draws in debris 6" away from the head as it moves along. Having the controls on the wand handle is great as well...no constant bending over to adjust the suction controls or the on/off switch. It works great in the car, too, picking up debris from the carpet on the first pass-over.
The hose is flexible, but strong and well-reinforced, and the automatic cord re-wind works well and can be foot-operated as well. The filter is easy to remove and clean out, but I recommend doing it outside, as the dust can fly.
It does a decent job on carpet, but its true strength is tile or hardwood floors. I have not yet tried the carpet head attachment. This is a well-made unit from Dirt Devil, and I hope it lasts as long as my last Dirt Devil can vac (25 years).
Customer Review: Love it! Summary: 5 Stars
I've only had this little guy for about a month, but I love it!! I tend to buy cheaper vacuums and replace them every couple of years, so I can't say if this is super-quality, but it's exactly what I was looking for. I have a small 2BR/1BA house with hard woods, linoleum and area rugs - this is perfect for that. Putting it together was a snap. The power on the handle is brilliant and is not just off and on, you can slide from low to high power so you can choose which speed is best for the exact job you're doing at that moment, and the ease of switching out tools is wonderful. I can also use tools from my old Bissell (like the pet hair remover) and it fits right into the handle (where the broom stick would go) and it becomes quite a powerful little handheld tool! The retracting power cord is a great bonus and the dust bin (while small) is a breeze to empty! The only thing I would ask for is a better way to store all of the extra components, right now I have to sort of dangle the extra carpet head from a hook that it surely doesn't belong on, but other than that, this thing actually makes me 'want' to vacuum!!
Customer Review: Buy It! Summary: 5 Stars
This is my first canister type vacuum cleaner and I'm completely impressed. The vacuum cleaners that I've owned in the past had less suction power and were much louder. This one purrs at the slide of the handle and has great suction power for fine animal hair. The retractable cord is convenient and the slide on the handle for the suction control is great as well.
The only thing that I can think of that might be off is that it's advertised as lightweight and I really didn't feel that it was but to be fair this is my first canister vacuum cleaner so I really have no comparison to go by. I ordered this mainly so that I can vacuum the stair cases because my old vacuum cleaner doesn't have any attachments. This vacuum cleaner comes with an abundance of attachments and so far my favorite one is the turbo floor attachment. I also was pleased that I was able to get a vacuum that has the HEPA filter. The dust cup is easy to empty and holds a decent amount of dust.
Overall, I rate this vacuum cleaner five stars because it exceeded my expectations for the price that I paid.
