Tools and Hardware Reviews of Dirt Devil CE4500 Vac n' MopCustomer Review: Great idea, but some glitches Summary: 3 Stars
The vacuum part of this Dirt Devil works really well. I hadn't charged mine in over a week, and it still had some charge left to vacuum. I like it that it's not as loud as a regular vacumm cleaner or my Shark. The spray works well, too, and I liked the idea that you could put your own choice of floor cleaner in it. But mine also leaks! I had read the reviews and took my chances, hoping I would be one of the lucky ones whose product did not leak. There is really nothing else on the market that vacuums and mops. There is a new Swiffer out but that only vacuums and sweeps. Anyway, so what I do is I do not keep the tank full (obviously because it all just leaks out anyway). I fill just the amount I think I'll need before using the mop (usually 1/4 to 1/3 cup). It doesn't always leak, so I think there is a certain position that makes it leak more. It doesn't constantly leak when using the mop, for example. And I keep the mop stored in a bucket so that when it does leak, it's not all over the floor.
I also use the Swiffer refills for the bottom. Probably not ideal, but it works. I cannot find Clorox pads or the Dirt Devil pads in any store.
As long as you don't set your expectations too high, I would recommend the vac 'n mop.
Update on my review (after using mop for about six months): The swiffer pads do not work well. They don't stay on and don't scrub very well. I am using the Clorox pads which are ok though not as good as the dirt devil kind. If you are vacuuming larger areas, you definitely need more charge. I was getting away with hardly charging the mop b/c I was only using it for small spaces before. Finally, the plastic piece that holds the spray outlet (at the bottom) broke off when I bumped the mop against the wall (or something). I could snap it back on, but eventually it got lost after repeated bumps. Now the spray outlet is taped in place. Curiously, my mop stopped leaking. I still like the product, but it can definitely be improved upon.
Customer Review: Gets the job done without too many problems Summary: 3 Stars
Good things:
Easy to use
Has vacuum and mop (#1 reason I bought it)
Vacuum works really well (picks up everything I need it to)
No strong smells from the cleaning solution
Lightweight (kind of)
EXCELLENT swivel head (love how it reaches in hard to get places)
Small enough to store in tight spaces
Not so great things:
Vacuum makes a loud, high-pitch, whiney noise during use
Battery does run out pretty fast (I keep mine plugged in constantly)
Leaves streaks on floor (but does a really good job of actually cleaning the floor)
Leaks a little bit (but I fixed mine by putting a piece of folded up paper towel between the base and swivel head)
Assembly wasn't difficult, but a little tricky. Be sure to push really hard to get the handle to snap into the base. Mine felt like it was locked in place, but it wasn't and the handle fell off the base when I tried to use it.
All in all, it gets the job done, but I don't think I would buy another one. Maybe if it was in the $25-$30 range.
Customer Review: Good idea, not dependable though Summary: 3 Stars
I have two young kids and was thrilled to find a product that would help with the seemingly constant messes around our house...particularly in the kitchen. I especially liked the vacuum; it was pretty lightweight and easy to use. It was very effective at picking up general dirt and cat hair and was great for quick cleanups during the day. I was excited to find a product that I could fill with my own preferred cleaning solution (vinegar & water). Unfortunately, I only got to enjoy using it for a week before the sprayer gave out and I had to return it. I've had this happen within 6 months on the Swiffer Wetjet too, so I've given up on all of the spray mops for now. I decided that since I like the vacuum/dry sweeper combo so much that I'm opting for the plain Dirt Devil Sweeper Vac. I'll just use the Swiffer-type wet cloths with it.
Customer Review: I'm satisfied Summary: 3 Stars
The Dirt Devil Mop-n-Vac fits my needs. I broom sweep the floors before I use the Dirt Devil. The vacuum feature works well under cabinets, close up to molding and behind the toilets. I use the Dirt Devil floor cleaner that came with the unit. It doesn't take much liquid to clean the floors. I should have plenty for some time yet. Once I'm out, I plan to use Pine Sol.
As to the disposable mopping pads, I'm using the Chlorox Ready Mop Absorbent Mopping Pads. Once the floor is dry I switch to a Swifter dry sweeping cloth to get up anthing I missed. Between moppings I use the dry sweeping cloths and the vacuum feature for a quick clean-up. So far so good.
Customer Review: Not dependable Summary: 2 Stars
I've had this product for 4 months. At first it was great, plugging in to recharge constantly is a small inconvenience, but one I can live with. I couldn't find replacement pads in our local Walmart, and the cleaning solution is difficult to find as well. Within two months the spray nozzle had broken off. I superglued it back on, the spray action wasn't as good but it still worked. Today a screw broke off - yes a screw. I'm not sure I can fix it...I'll be returning this item to the manufacturer and hope I can get some money back. I believe I'll be returning to brooms and swifter wet jets...those seem to work and are much less expensive.
