We live in an apartment, which only came with a deadbolt for the door. Needless to say, that even though we live in a nice area, and in a gated community, we wanted a bit more security.
I researched online for a while, and all of the products in this category of security devices (small, cheap, easy to install) are about the same, so I went ahead and ordered this brand from Amazon. It does what it is supposed to do. It is a little device that has two pieces. The main unit, and the little sensor unit. Your stick them both (they come with adhesive already on them, with a sticker covering backing you just have to remove) to the door, at the edge where the door opens. One on the door itself, the other on the door jam, aligned with the other.
Once the unit is armed (and has its 2 AAA batteries (not included)) then when either one of the sensors moves too far away from the other (such as when the door opens), then the alarm goes off.
The reason I am rating this 4 instead of 5 stars, is because the alarm isn't quite as loud as I would like. They say about 90-100 decibels. It is more like 60-ish. It is still loud, and would certainly startle an intruder, but if your door is several doors and hallways away from where you sleep, and you are a sound sleeper, you may just sleep right through the alarm. It should have been louder.
We have the window sensors from this same brand on order now, I will review them once I have installed them.

I bought this along with another brand personal carry type alarm.This doberman unit is well constructed,very small in size similar to a small hand held voice recorder.Is it worth the money? does it perform? i think it is certainly worth what is charged,and maybe a little more. Could be a little louder though,but in a small home or Apt,this will be great,and is super easy to install.As i suggested in my other personal alarm review,i insist that a handgun is the best line of defense over any alarm,but this doberman might just give you the time you need,and scare off that would be attacker to call police,or get your handgun ready to take out the threat.Customer Review: Great product!

This product I would recommend. It works every time and is loud enough to hear intruders from one end to the other. Easy to install.
