Tools and Hardware Reviews of Dyson DC21 Stowaway Canister VacuumCustomer Review: DC 21 is ok, DC 18 is so much better than this! Summary: 3 Stars
My inlaws just purchased this item, replacing their old DC7. I asked to use it because I wanted to compare my recent purchase of the DC18. First I hate the small retractable cord. I was just going to say how I liked the feature about the retractable cord better than the non retractable one I had, but then I pulled it out and it only came to half the distance that I would expect from normal retractable vacuums (BIG -). I then extended the arm of this vacuum so that it could lock in place and I just kept thinking why does this have to be fully extended, how easy would it be to have a feature to allow you to extend to various heights? I went and grabbed the heavy main attachment and started vacuuming. I felt a little uneasy vacuuming not really sure whether to hold the canister in one arm while vacuuming or letting it down and vacuum by pulling this little ball of a vacuum with this enormous handle and attachment, I gave it the benefit of the doubt and started with it down on the floor but it kept getting in the way and not following me like others have said. I kept thinking "why would you buy a vacuum that makes life harder and not easier for you? I then picked the vacuum up and finished off by vacuuming with one hand on the handle and one holding the canister. I really dislike this vac. I recommend the vacuum DC18; this was made with some thought process and is only lacking a (long) retractable cord not a whole design problem like this one.

Customer Review: DC21 Review- Didn't like it Summary: 3 Stars
I purchased the DC21 stowaway and just got in yesterday and to tell you the truth I was not impressed the design at all. I had a DC14 Animal and loved it but wanted a 2nd Dyson to retire the other one. The canister has excellent suction power but cord is WAY to short and bin WAY to small for my 2 dog/2 cat household. I really hated the vacuum wand, its too large and bulky and you cant disconnect the house from the wand which I like to do to really get deep into corners and vacuum table to dust. Also the attachments are kind of useless, they do not snap in they are merely held by suction and attached to the end of bulky handle gun thingy, they felt wobbly and popped off several times. The house kept getting getting twisted and I just didn't like it all, not compared to the animal upright.
If you really like to dust and get into nooks and crannys with a vacuum cleaner I would not recommend this product. I decided to return mine for the DC 25 animal. I purchased the vacuum from [...], and they include a whole bunch of free tools, including a turbine head for free. I paid [...] w/ free shipping and free turbine tool and angled brush, Great deal. I would highly recommend purchasing from this site, the customer service excellent!
Customer Review: Love Dyson but this has issues Summary: 3 Stars
I love Dyson, The only complaints I have with this model are:
1. power cord entirely too short
2. Hose is stiff and could be longer
3. Hose clips to front of machine, and when you pull it, it moves to the left instead of straight
4. Canister does not open up with a button to empty
I had to return mine because the power cord was defective, it would not stay in any outlet, and with the cord being too short as it is, it was falling out of the wall to often.
Amazon sent me a return label and I sent it back UPS. I ordered the DC23 for the same price of $499. This is the newer version, and I was told the power cord is 5 ft longer and so is the hose, and the canister issues has been changed to that of the upright, press and release. Waiting for the new one to come!
On a note for Dyson, there is no other vac that sucks up dirt better!
Customer Review: waiting to be impressed Summary: 3 Stars
I bought this vacuum expecting to be wowed but I sent it back waiting to be impressed. Ditto on so many of the reviews with the pros and cons. I am particular about vacuum cleaners. The suction on this machine is listed as 220 air watts which I would like to comment is equal to the suction on my Eureka which has 12 amps. If you're looking for a good cleaner you might consider the Eureka 48070MZ. Electrolux manufactures Eurekas. They work very well and have been greatly improved and the cost is a fraction of Dyson.
Customer Review: Dyson DC 21 vs. Windtunnel Bagless Canister Summary: 3 Stars
I bought both the Dyson DC 21 and Windtunnel Bagless Canister. Then I did two experiments. I covered my carpet with dry cat litter. The Windtunnel did a better job on the carpet.
Then I used the attachments. The Windtunnel was better. It had more suction.
Then I emptied the bagless canister. The Dyson has greater dirt capacity.
The Dyson is easier to push around and is more fun.
The Windtunnel is more compact.
