Tools and Hardware Reviews of Dyson DC25 Ball All-Floors Upright Vacuum Cleaner

Customer Review: Works well as advertised
Summary: 5 Stars

We moved into our first home just over a month ago, and needed a new vacuum. I wanted something with good suction, not leave dust everywhere, durable, lightweight, and relatively easy to use. I came from a POS Dirt Devil that I bought several years back, that would simply just scatter the dirt/duct around as opposed to picking it up. Given all the choices of vacuums out there, I started my tedious process of choosing the right one for our needs. From the start, I ruled out Dyson because of the cost. Some people even mentioned that Dysons were all marketing hype, and no substance. Well, as my research continued, I came across the same theme. People who bought other vacuum brands mostly ended up with the same issues I had with my Dirt Devil. People who bought Dysons, mostly were thrilled with their machines. After much agonizing over the cost, I ultimately decided to try the Dyson because I wanted to keep my new house clean. If this thing lasts me at least 5 years, it will be worth the extra cost.

So here comes the review. Putting the DC25 together was way too simple. Akin to putting together a child's toy in its simplicity. I was up and running in 10 minutes. Besides the obvious manueverability of "the ball", it has a nice, lightweight feel to it. The suction is about what I expected, meaning that it takes 1 pass to pick up visible debris from the carpet (as it should be!). You can see after only a few minutes how much this thing has picked-up, which is assuring in itself. The ability to switch the brush roller on and off near the handle makes it extremely handy going to hard-wood floors and back to carpet. But MY favorite part of this Dyson is the super-easy to detach, telescopic handle and tools. It literally takes 2 seconds to switch to hand-vacumming with this thing. Other vacuums I've had before also had detachable hoses and tools, but they were also so cumbersome, that I never ended up using them much. With the Dyson, not only is the hose extremely easy to use, it also has very strong suction. Now I spend half my time "dusting" my furniture, kitchen cabinets, windows, and every other corner, nook & cranny I can find. This feature alone justifies the price in my mind, because it simply cleans more. Finally, the solid build quality, and lightweight of this Dyson just makes it very fun to use. No kidding, I look forward to vacuuming and cleaning the house with this thing. I've already recommended to 3 of my freinds to get this model. When something works like you expect it to, it's a beautiful thing!

Customer Review: Wow... what a work of engineering! Awesome!
Summary: 5 Stars

I'd never used a Dyson... but had seen the advertisements.
I took the advice of the reviews here at Amazon, and bought it from Amazon... price was the best I could find, and trust Amazon as an online retailer.

The Dyson and added attachments were here sooner than I expected, and when the items arrived - the packages were in better condition than I saw them in the store!

I bought the Dyson DC25 All-Floors Upright.
Once it was all assembled (tricky at first - but amazingly easy, really) I ran it in our living room, over the same part of the carpet my wife had just swept that day... and she was surprised at how much dirt it collected. I went over the entire carpet and almost filled the bin.

There are a lot of things to like about the Dyson.
* Suction is awesome
* More amazing is the ability to transition from tile, to carpet, to throw rugs, without a single adjustment - or the rugs getting sucked up into the brushes every time... that's the first really amazing thing I noticed.
* The handle / wand / hose are all one piece. Hard to believe how easy and convenient it is to stop, pull out the handle, click on an attachment, and clean the edges and corners, and DUST with it... up the stairs, shelf edges, speakers, computer tower... whatever!
* Then I noticed how easy it is to maneuver it, and how nice it fits under the sink counters, and pivots right and left to get right into the corners! Wow!
* Emptying it? Another wow!Push a button to remove the canister, hold it over the trash can, push another button and the bottom drops out, the dirt comes out easily with a shake or a pull of the dirt... close the bottom back up, and put the whole assembly back in place with a snap! No bags, no hassle. Did I say wow?!
* I bought the allergy attachment kit, based on others comments about the brush that comes with it... and love it! I was able to clean shelves, wood stairs, window sills, and TV screens... it works everywhere!

Suffice it to say, it was money very well spent, and I'm sold! I even looked for stock in this company... but it's not available (now).

I have never owned a vacuum that was so easy to use, does such a great job, easy to maneuver, and impressed me so much! I typically don't like to clean - but I found that I genuinely enjoyed cleaning and vacuuming with the Dyson DC25.

Oh... and I rarely comment on anything I purchase... this is a rare exception.

Customer Review: I've Fallen in Love!
Summary: 5 Stars

I did my research. I knew about the owner of the company and his struggles and heard all about how wonderful the Dyson products were, but I am not one to buy into hype. When I read reviews on various sites saying exactly that, I was prepared to be as skeptical as possible. That's one thing I found very interesting. Reviews of this vacuum tend to be that people absolutely love it or absolutely hate it.

Which I don't understand. A vacuum either works or it doesn't. This vacuum works! I was absolutely blown away at how this little devil effortless went through the house picking up everything in its path. It also transfers easily from carpet to smooth surfaces (remember to turn the spinning brushes off!). You do have to empty it often, but WHO CARES! I am giddy with joy every time I walk over to empty it out into the trash because that means it's working as it should.

Maybe it works better for certain carpet types? I don't know. But I can't see how. I live in an upscale apartment with 2 dogs, a cat, and a hairy husband. Things get ridiculous real fast if you can imagine. I vacuum at least once a day. The first few times I used the machine I would get low to the ground and scrape my hand across the floor. With my old vacuum I would do that and have a handful of hair. With this baby, nothing! This isn't even the pet model! I don't want to be condescending, but you also have to know how to vacuum. You are supposed to go across an area of carpet in multiple directions to really remove all the debris.

I waited a little over a month to review because I've been waiting for something to just break down or not work at top performance. It hasn't yet, so I figured it'd be high time for me to leave my experiences with this. On a serious note, after having the Dyson, I have definitely noticed a vast improvement in my health. I have allergies (among other things, to dogs and cats, but I love them!), and this has definitely made life less miserable for me. This was really important because of the move to a smaller living space.

So what can I say? Believe the hype!

(I purchased this refurbished from another site)

Customer Review: Steep price but a dream of vacuum cleaner
Summary: 5 Stars

I have a Bissell vacuum cleaner as well, but after a while it would hardly pick up anything off the floor or carpet anymore. I had seen the Dyson commercials on TV and was wondering whether reality was like it was portrayed in the commercials. So I started reading reviews on the Dyson vacs. Most people seemed to be raving about their purchases, so I figured I'd bite the bullet and spend the money.

Granted, it's still pretty new, only a month now, but it's a dream. You take everything out of the box, follow the instructions (which basically come down to clicking all the pieces in place) and you're ready to start. It takes some getting used to the wrist movement to turn the vacuum, but you learn quickly.

It picks up everything (we have three small dogs, meaning: dog hair times three!!) in a single pass and does indeed make your carpet look like new. It's a little bit of a stretch saying that running the vacuum is lots of fun. But this Dyson surely makes it a lot less of a chore.

I hope that it will live up to its reputation and never lose suction. That was the main reason for getting a Dyson. Other things that were important to me were easy and clean disposal of the container content, having a telescope wand and weight.

After having the unit put away, I started reading the manual. Something I didn't know but I quite like is that there are clear instructions what to to in case of obstruction or for regular maintenance. Every few months or so you take out the filters, rinse them under cold water, let them dry and ... that's it.
I haven't had to do this yet, but it seems that some time was spent on designing the unit in such a way that it's easy to disassemble in case something gets stuck somewhere. There are no screws to be undone. Just push a button and some part gets released, providing good access for cleaning.

Like I said, it's only been a month, but this vacuum seems to be in a class of its own. The price may be an initial turn off, but in the long run, this may very well turn out to be the best buy you can make when it comes to vacuums.

Customer Review: Quality vs Quantity
Summary: 5 Stars

I purchased this vacuum with a little apprehension. I have learned that high price does not equal high quality. Reading past reviews, I saw that people were disappointed, however I do believe that they were expecting more due to brand association and price. I have used a Kirby Legend II, the Hoover Platinum and a in home central vacuum system. Compared the the Kirby it is much lighter and easier to use, the Kirby also has to have regular belt and bag changes. The Kirby is a very powerful machine, but for it's size and weight you would expect that. Overall the Kirby was/is much more expensive but had quality you could feel. The Hover Platinum is the closest vacuum that could compare to the Dyson. The brush head and canister are larger, and the cord is longer, these points alone made me almost purchase that instead. It also has an indicator light that lets you know if the carpet in clean or dirty, a novelty item, but fun to watch. What sold me on the Dyson was the ball and the ease of maneuvering and pivoting. The house vacuum is just convenient and will spoil you. However it is very expensive and is usually installed while the house is being built. The best thing about the house vacuum is the option of having suction levers along the baseboards around the house where you please. The kitchen is a great place to have one, if there is a small spill, just flip the lever, grab a broom and sweep it in the wall. No vacuum can compare in my opinion. With that said, the Dyson is a less expensive option that is comparable in terms of convenience. I also own a Roomba, which is a lifesaver, especially when it comes to an easy daily vacuuming all around the house and leaving the deep vacuuming to once a week. If you own a pet or keep or windows open often, get a Roomba. Overall I would recommend this vacuum. It is light, effortless, convenient and good looking too. My only complaint is the plastic used, I would have thought it would have been thicker and denser, but that is what makes it so light, however I would have rather had denser plastic than a lighter vacuum.
