Tools and Hardware Reviews of Dyson DC14 Low Reach Upright VacuumCustomer Review: Go Dyson!! Summary: 5 Stars
I bought the Dyson DC14 low reach as a replacement vacuum. I am so happy with this machine. The machine weighs lighter than most other upright vacuum cleaner, even ones made of cheap/flimsy plastic. Its sleek design and bold colour is a bonus.
Assembly is easy. It took me less than 10 minutes.
This machine is easy to manouver. I can make a 360 degree turn without any struggle at all. It glides smooth. THe noise is not very loud and annoying.
I keep my house fairly clean so I was amazed at how much tiny dust particles it sucked. It has automatic carpet height adjustment, so you don't have to worry if you have different type of carpet. To clean my hardwood floor, I simply use my feet to turn the switch to the floor mode.
Because of the wide sweeper, I can vacuum a lot faster without having to go back and forth to many times.
The retractable hose is fantastic, very easy to use. I just push a button to release the hose and another button to extend the wand and attach whatever attachment I need and there I have it! I don't know if it can reach up to 17ft. When I vacuumed my stair, the hose seemed to stretch itself well, but 17 ft...???
The floor tool attachment is a bit hard to use though. I have berber carpet at home, and it seems that I can only use the floor attachment in a forward motion. When I pull it backward, the brush gets "stuck" on the carpet. I don't have any problem with the machine falling down when I stretch the hose, though. One tip: have the back of the machine facing you when you are using/extending the hose.
Emptying the dust bin couldn't be much easier. Dyson makes this vacuum cleaner the "touch-of-a-button" state of the art. The bottom of the bin is released by a button. Needless to say, the process of emptying a bin full of dust is made cleaner and easier.
For those (like me) who has been hesistant to get this machine because of its high price, I'd say go for it. You won't regret it.
Customer Review: Very Satisfied Dyson owner Summary: 5 Stars
I have now owned this vacuum for one year. I waited this long to review to test the reliability of this very pricey machine...
It has stood up to the one year test and is still performing wonderfully. First tip would be to wait for a sale (I purchased through Amazon at an amazing low price, with free shipping as an added bonus!)
We have a brand new house, a small child and a houseful of cats, long and short haired. I knew I needed a good vacuum. This Dyson does everything it says it does. The house smells fresher and cleaner once I'm done. Of course it does, look what came out of the carpet!
I wanted to address the hardwood floor comment...half of my downstairs flooring is hardwood, and I have had no problem. I turn off the beater bar most times, but others I don't. Either way it works fine...picks up everything, almost before I get to it, the suction is so good.
Another comment - on rugs...again, turn off the beater bar....the suction is so good that it gets all of the cat hair & dirt out of the rug.
The hose is also another reason I purchased this machine, it stays out of the way until you're ready for it, and then it is plenty long, it stretches all the way to the top of the staircase...13 steps.
Another tip, empty the canister when the dirt inside stops spinning...I learned this after waiting too long and then it is a little tougher to empty.
Also clean the beater bar once every so often, mine gets tangled with hair, fur, etc....and decreases performance a bit. (This probably goes for most vacuums!)
I will say that I have not once used the low reach tool, so another model w/out this feature would probably do fine.
No bags and filters to buy! Easy to clean!
I highly recommend this vacuum, especially if you can get that low price!
Customer Review: Yet another Dyson review? Summary: 5 Stars
So many people have reviewed this product that I initially felt it was unnecessary. But now that I've had more time to use mine, I can't keep quiet any longer. This vacuum is fantastic. It cleans far better than my Bissell upright did, it's quieter, and it's easier to empty. I'm a stickler when it comes to how well things work, and the Dyson lives up to the hype. I resisted for 2 years, and I wish I hadn't.
This vacuum is so strong it literally sucks itself to the carpet, which can make it difficult to vacuum small area rugs. As long as you move at a moderate pace (as with any vacuum, you'll get better results if you're not doing the Indy 500 with it) this thing eats dust and animal hair. I don't know whether to be excited at how much the Dyson sucks up, or disgusted at what is in my carpet.
Here are good reasons to buy the Dyson:
* It works as well as it should for the cost.
* It's extremely well-engineered (you can access every area on the thing that could potentially block without using a screwdriver!)
* Dyson was ripped off by the other vacuum manufacturers (namely Hoover). He had to take them to court-twice-and won both times. Support the good guys, not the thieves.
* It's very easy to clean, and you never have to touch the messy stuff.
* You don't need to buy replacement filters, which can be quite a cost savings.
Reasons not to buy a Dyson:
* It's expensive. Don't get me wrong, it's worth every penny, but not everyone can spend $400 on a vacuum. If you can, though, you'll never regret it.
* If you are a neat-nut and germophobe, seeing what the Dyson sucks out of your "clean" carpet may cause a nervous breakdown.
* The mini turbine tool accessory doesn't work and shouldn't even be available. But that has nothing to do with the vacuum itself.
Customer Review: finally trough searching Summary: 5 Stars
Over the last few years I purchased several vacuum cleaners because 2 of them (bagless) started to leak out dust from the collection container the other one just quit working after a few months the last one a Sanyo Dirthunter seemed to work well the first time then I had to have the powerhead repaired because it quit after the second use and I had to constantly clean the filter off because the dust and dirt stuck to the filter each time I vacuumed I had to take the collection bin apart and clean of the dirt and dust with a little tool that comes enclosed with the cleaner the job was tedious and had to be done outside because off all the dirt and dust that cam off the filter. Imagine the dust I breathed in while doing so.
Finally I gave in and a got a Dyson and I am really pleased, I had no trouble putting it together I did not even have to use the instructions. I did not collect several containers full off Dust the first time I used it like some people claimed but there was a lot of stuff in the collection bin. What I found impressive was the nap on the carpet looked like the day we had it installed. The cleaner runs very quiet and it is easy to push the extension hose is easy to use and I like the fact that it does not wrap around and get in the way it neatly hides in the handle. When I empty the dirt I follow Dyson's instructions and wrap the trash bag around the container before I pull the lever to open the trapdoor to release the dust into the bag I give it a few shakes wait a sec and no Mr Orek there is no dust flying around anywhere. Dyson got them all beat it is the best vacuum I ever owned and well worse money I spend for it not to mention the fact that mine came with a free sewing machine from www.sewvacdirect.com I would recommend a Dyson to anyone that wants a really good vacuum cleaner.

Customer Review: best vac I ever used. Summary: 5 Stars
I just bought this vac, and tried it on carpet and bare floor. This vac is well designed - most parts are snap on, and fit to each other very well. It is heavier than other vacs, but lighter than my old self-propelled one. So, I can live with that. Somewhere on the web, I read a review saying that the dust will pass the cyclon and be stopped by the HEPA filter, when the air flow has not form the right stage yet. I agree with this. Also the manual says turn on the vac first at the upright position, then pull the handle and move the vac. At the upright position, the vac pulls the air from the top of the handle. This (cleaner) room air will give the vac some time to start the cyclone action before you pull the handle when the air is sourced from the carpet beater area. Yes, it collected a lot of carpet lint. I believe that this depends on the quality of the carpet. My old hoover picked up a lot too. I feel more suction power from hoover, when I block the hose. This is just a static pressure (water head), and the suction power should be the product of pressure and air volume per time. Well, I do not have a flow meter handy, so I can not measure the air flow. I just hope that dyson sucks more air than hoover, as the manufacturer claims more suction power. I am glad that I do not have to buy any more dust bags and HEPA filter. The cost added up, especially the 10 dollar HEPA filter. Even if I have to wash the dyson HEPA filter every month (manual says every 6 months) I would gladly do it. No smell of the fine dust came out from the vac. I love it. The only question is, how long will this vac last? I will find out, and put another review.
I am very satisfied with this one.
