Tools and Hardware Reviews of Dyson DC14 Low Reach Upright Vacuum

Customer Review: This is a DREAM vacuum!
Summary: 5 Stars

We have a yellow lab and for those folks who have labs, you know their shedding capabilities! Horrible!
We owned an Upright Dirt Devil and it APPEARED to sweep up the hair, but was easily clogged and the bag filled up so quickly.
When our Dyson DC14 Low Reach arrived, we put it together (simple). We first vacuumed with the Dirt Devil (only 5 months old), then went back over the carpets with our Dyson. I was SHOCKED. There was more dog hair and dirt/dust picked up (and not just a little!) I went around the base boards, still amazed!
The air smells so clean after vacuuming with the Dyson. I hope that continues and isn't just because it is new! I LOVE IT!
We have hardwood flooring in our living room and hall. The Dirt Devil would blow the dog hair away, but the Dyson sucks it right up! I honestly do not have anything negative to say about the Dyson. It runs much more quiet than the Dirt Devil. I have read complaints that the Dyson is loud, but ours is not at all, those with loud Dysons might want to get them checked.
Emptying the Dyson is a breeze!!! I love not worrying about a nasty bag!
There is no headlight, like on the Dirt Devil, but who needs a headlight? I don't vacuum in the dark anyway.
I LOVE the hose that extends. I can reach the ceiling now with ease (perfect for those spider webs that show up in the corners!)
The attachment for curtains works great as well.
The weight is not bad at all, it is actually easier to handle and manuever than the Dirt Devil.
I have asked myself if I didn't own a pet that sheds so badly, would I need Dyson? That is a good question. Probably not, but it sure makes vacuuming more fun!

After reading all the horror stories about the other bagless vacuums it just made more sense to bite the financial bullet and get the dyson. I don't have any prior experience with bagless machines that have filters that need to be replaced and lose suction almost immediately, according to the many postings, but I don't need to. The only thing that I read negative was that these machines have to much suction and are expensive. Once assembled, which was easy, this thing picked up everything. I know our German Shepherd sheds, but this is ridiculous. This is very easy to manuever, empty and to use the expandable hose. The expandable hose is a must if you have stairs!! Have the store demo all of the buttons and how everything comes apart it will save you some reading and time. My opinion is to spend the extra money and get one of these they work and work well. And if you can, get the DC14 line instead of the DC07. The 14 gives you a larger vacuum area and the expandable handle. The models are all the same just the accessories are different, the low reach was the best value for the accessories and if you wanted to get the animal attachment you save 10.00 off of the animal price, trust me we shopped it and compared. Yes they are expensive, but break down the cost of a decent bagless and the cost of replacing filters 30.00/yr or every six months like they recommend. And most people's bagless needs to be replaced within 2-3 years and they are dissatisfied after the first year as they lose suction. By the time you buy filters and 2 vacuums you have spent the same money. If you are not impressed with this machine then I feel sorry for you because nothing will make you happy.

Customer Review: Love it, love it, love it

This is a great vacuum cleaner. I looked and looked for a good one and took a couple back to the store before I settled on this. I've owned it for over a year now and I have yet to find a significant problem. It's the perfect combination of good suction and handy tools for getting under low furniture and in crevices. I really wanted an upright vacuum, but I also wanted the flexibility of a long hose and good attachments and this fits the bill. It's easy to use, powerful, doesn't require bags, and cute!

My sister has the DC 07, and unless they've changed it since she bought hers a couple of years ago, the DC 14 is vastly better when using attachments. It's no trouble at all to pop the hose off the back and slide the wand out of the hose. The attachments all fit well and I love the wide head to use under furniture.

I bought a refurbished model, which was a lot cheaper and I have had no mechanical problems. The only issue was when I received it they had sent me the wrong crevice tool (the long one), so it wouldn't snap onto the main vacuum cleaner body, but all I had to do was call Dyson and they sent me the correct tool free in the mail immediately.

The only other issue I've had to deal with at all is that sometimes it takes a couple of tries to get the dirt cup popped off the vacuum cleaner (but my husband had no problems doing this, so maybe it's just me). This is an excellent vacuum cleaner and I wholeheartedly recommend it!

Customer Review: Great vacuum. Cleans like crazy.

Pros:
Easy to use. Very adaptable system. Tools and manual cleaning system are at your fingertips. Very long power cord and attachment hose. Incredible suction. Emptying the bin is trivial, and essentially a clean process. Contrary to competitor claims, Dyson vacs do *not* spew dust into the house. In fact, the lifetime filter is user cleanable making the whole unit basically cost free--again, a trivially simple process.

Cons:

This thing sucks so hard that it's difficult to push on deep pile carpet. I called Dyson about this and they had me remove two very thin seals from the beater-bar head. The result completely fixed the issue. There was no apparent loss of cleaning capability. The power cord is exceptionally long. Unfortunately, it does not automagically retract. The long cord can get in ones way, however one does not have to move it from plug to plug as much. Yes, it's plastic. But other reviews have indicated reliability and good support from Dyson.

Both my wife and I find the Dyson to be an excellent purchase. We've had lots of problems with vacuums because of three dogs and long haired humans. This machine does a much better job of things and is much easier to use.

Worth the money? Time will tell. The reason why we selected Dyson is because of all the good reviews all over the Net. So far, it has exceeded our expectations.

Customer Review: List price is incorrect
Summary: 5 Stars

This item is not a savings as Amazon indicates. As a matter of fact, it sells for $459.99 (list) wherever you may look, on-line or in the store. I would suggest purchasing the item from Sears since they have a terrific extended warranty plan, not to mention that they currently have a sale (as of 12/26/2004) on this item. I'll be heading to Sears tomorrow to take advantage of their offer.

Other than my correction to Amazon's pricing strategies, I don't own this product myself, but I have inspected the unit in the store and I was impressed with its performance, quality and durability. Yes, it's very expensive, but you get what you pay for. I believe this product is the best offer by Dyson, since some of their other models sport attachments and such that either do not work well or are not worth the extra cost. My opinion coincides with other reviewers elsewhere.

Overall, Amazon is good about keeping their inventory status information up-to-date, but they missed the boat on this item. In short, this item is not 16% off - it's regular list price, which is the same price offered by Dyson itself. Always perform a complete investigation on a product before committing to a purchase, otherwise you may regret that you "jumped the gun."
