Tools and Hardware Reviews of Dyson DC14 Low Reach Upright VacuumCustomer Review: A Little Overrated?? Summary: 3 Stars
Okay, maybe I'm the only one who feels this way, but I really thought after reading some reviews that this was definitely the vacuum to buy. Must be my vacuuming needs are different from most.
For starters, I have too many pieces of furniture that the vacuum cannot get far enough under. Having to stop and attach the low reach accessory is a pain. Secondly, I have 3 Himalayan cats which shed unbelievably! The vacuum can get the fur off regular carpets, but when I run the vacuum over area rugs the beater brush stops and the clutch slips. I contacted dyson about this and they suggested that I use the bare floor setting for area rugs. Yeah, right. Forget about picking up the cat fur. I need the beating brush in order to do so. Thirdly, the vacuum does not lift the nap of my carpet the way my deceased Hoover Wind Tunnel did. It had various head settings which really helped lift the troddened traffic pattern off my carpet. Fourth, I don't like having to extend the wand in full to use it. Sometimes I just need a quick "suck-up" of dirt or cat fur along a wall or stair tread, or a quick swipe of hair or lint in the bathroom beneath the cabinet, and the whole wand is just too long. Lastly, I can think of only once in the month I have owned this that I didn't have to stick my hand in the canister to dislodge my sweepings. Yuk!
So, in my opinion, although it is fine for general vacuuming, I think I would have been better off getting another Wind Tunnel. Maybe in time I'll gift this to my daughter and get what I need.
To its credit, it is quieter than the Wind Tunnel and has a nice long cord. That why I gave it 3 stars.
Customer Review: difficult to empty dirt; got stuck Summary: 3 Stars
The suction is excellent, just as what other people had said. However, there are a few things that I dislike.
First, I need to store the low reach floor tool separately; acutally I need to reserve a spot on the floor just for it since I'd rather not put it on a shelf due to the dirt/dust on it.
Second, it's very difficult for me to empty the dust/dirt/hair. It often got stuck in the "core" of the dust bin.
Third, since the cover is opened downwards, when I close it, any dust/dirt/hair hanging near the opening tends to become "sandwiched" between the rim of the cover and the rim of the dust bin. It looks really gross, and in fact is very inhygienic.
Customer Review: Total Junk!! Summary: 1 Stars
I would give this NEGATIVE stars if possible. However, I only give one star inasmuch as one is the lowest grade.
Under no circumstances should you purchase this vacuum cleaner. In his TV commercials, Mr. Dyson says that things should work properly. Well, this vacuum certainly does not. First, it scratched up my hardwood floors. The base of the machine is so low to the ground that it traps tiny hard particles between the floor and the machine and then drags them while scratching the floor. In order to not do this, one needs to remove all such particles from the floor to prepare for the almighty Dyson to come along and do its job (what a joke).
Next, it DOES NOT live up to its over-rated reputation of picking up carpet dirt. I had sanded some spackle off a wall and the dust went into the carpet. After OVER 10 or so passes the Dyson picked up about only 70% of the dust. What a joke for such an expensive machine. What a complete joke. I finally had it with this piece of junk that I went to Wal-Mart and bought a Eureka Boss for one quarter the price and it does so much better at picking up dust and dirt than the Dyson. It picked up what the Dyson left behind. It also does NOT scratch my hardwood floors (no matter how many hard paricles might be on it..... it just vacuums them up... what a concept huh Mr. Dyson!!).
I bought into the advertising hype about the Dyson and learned my lesson all too well. What a piece of absolute junk. The Eureka Boss is indeed the boss. Do not buy the Dyson. Get the Eureka Boss and use the extra $300 in savings to pay for a celebration of your wise decision. Please do not be fooled by the slick advertizing and the fact that Monica on Friends uses the yellow Dyson model. What a pathetic marketing ploy.
I am a very disatisfied customer. I wonder if Mr. Dyson will pay to re-finish my hardwood floors now that his contraption has ruined them??
Customer Review: Dyson is a Scam Summary: 1 Stars
Watch out! Dyson does not tell you in their sales literature that this vacuum does not work properly on all rugs. In many cases, this vacuum will suck the carpet into the vacuum. If this happens, the brush stops rotating, and the machine makes an extremely loud and noise. They call it a "ratcheting" noise but that is a benign term for what it actually sounds like. Their customer service reps swear that the vacuum is functioning properly and that the fault is the rug. They do not stand by their product. They tell you that this problem occurs with both area rugs and wall to wall and that it is not their fault. If you buy this machine, you are on your own. Don't say you were not warned.
Customer Review: Over Priced Plastic Piece of JUNK! Summary: 1 Stars
This vacuum cleaner broke on me the first month I owned it, the lever where you change from carpet to hard floors. So I got a replacement . This vacuum cleaner is a plastic piece of junk! A sock got caught in the hose and when my husband went to take the hose off, part of the plastic connection broke. The top plastic thing on the attachment also broke..the bottom of the canister as well. Way over priced! I've certainly owned far better for less money! Go get a Hoover Wind Tunnel in stead!
