Tools and Hardware Reviews of Dyson Mini Turbine Tool

Customer Review: Use the right tool for the right task
Summary: 5 Stars

I read the negative reviews on this item with some surprise and amusement.

I have been using this tool for its designed use - cleaning stair steps. It works magnificiently.

Here are a few tips: (1) The turbine spins from pneumatic pressure. You must push and pull on the button to direct the air over the turbine so that it will spin the brush; (2) Once the brush is spinning, just as with a jet engine, excessive resistance will significantly impede the speed of the turbine and diminish performance. (3) The clogging occurs when you slow the turbine so much from resistance (by using it on things like soft pillows or piles of clothing) that the air cannot spin the turbine with sufficient velocity to remove the hair from the collection points - therefore it clogs.

Don't use this on soft pillows. The softness of the pillow will wrinkle and create a surface with too much resistance for the turbine to spin at the speed necessary to function. The mattress cleaning tool, stiff brush or extra soft brush work great on pillows (remove 100% of pet hair).

DO use it on stairs or any other firm surfaces. Give the turbine a few seconds to come up to speed. Keep it at speed and it will perform wonderfully.

I have a black labrador retriever. I vacuum her fur during shedding season (a few cookies helped her overcome her initial conclusion that I had gone mad) with the mattress attachment. Then I use this attachment to vacuum the stairs and the stiff upholstery.

Used as above, the attachment removes 100% of the dog hair from any firm surface and does an excellent job of cleaning.

I love my Dyson and everything about. I think I like it more than my wife.

I hope this helps.

Customer Review: Works like a champ!

I was hesitant to purchase this after reading customer reviews on several sites that generally fell 40/60 for/against this attachment. In the end I decided to buy it locally with the thought that if it didn't work, I'd just take it back. Verdict? It works!

I do not know if people had the thing attached incorrectly, or were pushing with all their might against the surface they were trying to clean, or what. I used it on a DC14 All Floors model, and it worked like a charm getting cat fur from a standard cloth sofa and love seat that had gotten down into the fibers. Did it come off immediately, no. I had to run over it a few times, but no more effort than common sense would dictate. Did it ALL come off? No, but the sofa had never been cleaned in several years. Common sense again dictates that it will take more than 10 minutes minimal effort to thoroughly clean.

Attach it, turn the vac on, let it spin up a few seconds and go to work. As easy as that. I think if you make using the turbine head a monthly routine, you will be very happy with it and will have nice clean furniture to show for it.

Customer Review: It works great for me, after a bit of adjustment

I'm inserting a copy of the comment I made on a review of the Dyson Mattress Tool:

I highly recommend the Dyson Mini Turbine Tool for getting hair and everything else off of fuzzy furniture. We have velour fabric and two cats. This thing (now) does the trick!
HOWEVER! Right out of the box it's not as good as it can be. I removed the bottom cover (easy, thumb-twist screws) and stuck two pieces of self-adhesive foam (about 1/8" thick so a total of 1/4")... something like this: Frost King V25GA Extreme Rubber Weather-Strip Tape 3/8-Inch by 1/4-Inch by 17-Feet, Grey... onto the inside of the plastic cover so it helps seal off the intake bypass (a little flexible flap). Now it sucks like crazy and all the dust/hair/etc. is gone from furniture and our carpeted stairs, too!

Customer Review: As a professional DOG WALKER/PET SITTER, I love it!!!

I have to say this is one of my very favorite things about the best vacuum ever. I've had it since the first animal came out and not only does it do a beautiful job getting my cats and dogs' hair off my stairs, it also gets all the hair out of my van's upholstery after a week of driving dogs around and gets my clients' houses looking great for when they come home from vacation. If you clunk it's air intake thing up against stuff, it closes and you have to reach down and pull it open (takes maybe 2 seconds and you stop doing it after the third or forth time you use it) and as with all vaccum turine head thingies, it works best if you make sure to remove any hair that does get stuck in the turbines so they can actually do their job.

Customer Review: Great tool, takes some practice to use correctly.

I wasn't expecting that much from this tool after reading all the negative reviews here, but I got it as part of the DC14 full kit and I was pleasantly surprised.

This tool is fantastic for removing cat hair. It did take some practice to learn to use it on softer upholstery like pillows as they will expand into the chamber and cause the brush to stop spinning if you press too hard. Once I learned the right touch this tool removes cat hair better than anything else I have tried.

It also works very well on any hard surfaces, I have even used it to clean the dust off the top of my fan blades. The price is pretty high but in my opinion it is definitely worth it if you have pets that shed alot.
