At the center of the machine's innovation is the Cyclone air path design, an eight-section chamber that creates powerful, consistent suction. The conical chambers generate 100,000 g of centrifugal force, pushing dust and dirt out of the airflow into the vacuum's 1-gallon collection cup. With no bag to clog, the vacuum's 270 air watts of suction remain steady. The large, transparent collection cup is easy to check and empties tidily--pop it off, hold it over a trash bin, and pull the trigger to release dirt without having to touch it. The DC07 also comes equipped with a multipart filtration system to improve overall air quality in the home. The HEPA filter, measuring 412 square inches in surface area, traps microscopic particulates and allergens. Expertly built, the filter is designed to last the lifetime of the machine.
Suitable for bare floors and carpets, the Dyson upright features a 14-inch cleaning path and edge-cleaning bristles. A simple foot pedal switches off the brush roll for bare floors, and the nozzle automatically adjusts for changes in carpet height. The vacuum is equipped for above-floor cleaning with a cleverly stowed, quick-release 17-foot hose with a reversible, extension-wand handle. Customer Review: Best vacuum at $150

I ordered this vacuum for my wife after her 10 year old Hoover cheapie started howling and making all sorts of racket. It still worked great, had great suction and did a great job cleaning, but our 8 month old son was getting ready to breakout and rule the house. We wanted something new, that would suck up the dog hair without flinching and that would last a good long time. My wife wanted a Dyson, even though we had a bagless vacuum for a brief time and she hated it. She knew what she was potentially getting into, but she was willing to spend $399 at the store for one and I was going to let her do it. Before she went out, I asked her to consider looking at Amazon to see what kind of deals they had and she was reluctant - afterall we had just tried to buy a refurbished Hoover not too long ago and when we opened the box it was filthy - it looked like someone had used it for 3 years, then boxed it up and returned it to the store. I finally convinced her to check here and when we saw this one for $150, we couldn't pass it up.
So here are my pros and cons of this vacuum:
Pros:
Noise - this is the quietest vacuum I have ever seen (or heard). Maybe we have this thing hooked up wrong or something, because most of the bad reviews I had read on the DC07 model was that it was too noisy - it sounded like an airplane engine. Since it does a great job of sucking up the pet hair and loose carpet fibers, I would have to say it is hooked up right.
Ease of use - once again, going completely against all of the bad reviews I read previously, this vacuum is the easiest thing to push. Sure it's heavier than my wife's old vacuum, but it is almost effortless to push. As far as using the attachments, we never use them, so I can't comment on that part of "ease of use" but it does look cumbersome to swap out attachments. We have a plug-in hand vac that we use for the couch cleanings and under the end table cleanings.
Cons:
Durability - this is really the only thing that I could comment on that I would like to see improved. Right now everything is fine, but since it is almost entirely made out of plastic, I can see a potential for pieces breaking.
We received our unit in a blank box and it was definitely refurbished - there were nicks and scratches in several places and it looked like the wheels had been used quite a bit. I think we always get the refurbished units that look like they have been refurbished, but the cannister was brand new and it looked like the brush rollers had been replaced, so we didn't complain too much. Apparently our old sweeper was still doing a great job cleaning - the Dyson doesn't pull up too much dirt - just mostly carpet fibers from our 15 year old, quickly aging carpet. It probably helps that my wife sweeps every week too. I think she has been very happy with it - she let me borrow it the other day to try it out - but she was quick to let me know who's vacuum it was that I was using!
