Tools and Hardware Reviews of Remanufactured Dyson DC17 Animal Cyclone Upright Vacuum CleanerCustomer Review: LOVE IT ! ! ! ! Summary: 5 Stars
I love this vacuum. I have been looking at it for over 2 years. I had a working vacuum so I could not justify the price. My Hoover (which I had for over 11 years) started to die occassionaly. That was my chance to start seriously looking at the Dyson. I found the remanufactured one on Amazon and thought it was a great deal. I bought it and received it in about 4 days - it looked absolutely brand new. I have also used the spray cleaner that came with it and it worked really well on the stain that I had.
There were a couple of issues - one has been mentioned in other reviews - the lack of instructions. This vacuum does so much and has so many attachments but there are no directions on what to do with them. I have them stashed in the closet and maybe someday (when I retire) I will try t o figure them out. In the meantime, I just use the attachments that I know. The other issue is that because the vacuum has so much suction it really makes the hose hard to manage. It seems to get sucked back up into the vacuum because it is so powerful. It works really well, but you have to fight with it alot.
One other concern that I had when I looked at it in stores was the weight of it. This turned out not to be an issue at all - this thing rolls smoothly and with very little effort. If you can get your kids to vacuum - this is a very lightweight machine while it is on the ground.
Overall, I love it and hope to have it for at least as long as I had my Hoover Windtunnel.
Customer Review: Best Vacuum Money Can Buy Summary: 5 Stars
I got this for my fiancee's small apartment. I got the Dyson DC17 over the Dyson ball model because I figured the whole purpose of buying a vacuum is to clean carpet, so why would I not get the Dyson model that claimed to clean carpet the best, the Dyson DC17. Therefore I got this one.
I keep the apartment clean regularly and vacuumed with a Dirt Devil two weeks before using the Dyson DC17. The carpeted area consisted of only a small living room, a small hallway, and a small bedroom. The canister for DC17 became full of dust, dirt, lent, and hair TWICE before I finished vacuuming. I was truly amazed. I looked at the carpet after using the Dyson DC17 and the carpet looked brand new as the sun shined down on it.
I also loved the ease of emptying the clear plastic canister. You just pop the canister right out of the vacuum while it is still sealed, then you just hold it over the trash can and pull a small red lever, the bottom pops open and all of the dirt falls out of the bottom of the canister. In my opinion, this has got to be the cleanest and easiest method of emptying a vacuum ever invented.
I was concerning about what a refurbished vacuum might look like and how it might work. To my surprise, there were absolutely no cosmetic damages and the vacuum worked perfectly (great suction and cleaning power).
You will not be disappointed if you buy this vacuum.
Customer Review: Perfect so far! Summary: 5 Stars
I've now had this vacuum for over three months with zero problems. Still very happy with it!
It looked brand new out of the box. Everything was in perfect condition and worked as expected. I vacuumed for a couple of hours to get the built-up dog hair out of the house. Some thoughts:
- The HEPA filter is very good. Exhaust air is completely scent free.
- The 'mini turbine head' works decently well on my stairs. I'm glad I got this model for that reason.
- It's much easier to empty than my old vacuum. Overall it's quite easy to use.
- I'm not sure it cleans any better; it requires multiple passes to get all the visible dog fur up just like my old vacuum did. Also just like my old vacuum, it sometimes leaves streaks of fur after a pass, and it's best to make passes at different angles to get everything up. (I had a pretty good vacuum before, but it died. And my dog produces a LOT of fur to be cleaned up.)
- It's a really high quality product. Far nicer than I realized it would be, and definitely worth the money. Very good design all around - simple, intuitive, effective.
- This is my first ever purchase of a factory reconditioned product. So far it's been a very good experience. $309 for a DC17 Animal? Sign me up!
- Many thanks to Amazon for getting it here within 3 days with free super saver shipping!
Customer Review: Omgosh That's Nasty! Summary: 5 Stars
What was so incredibly NASTY was the junk my prior vacuum was leaving behind. First of all before I rave on my new purchase I just want to say how awesome amazon was. I qualified for free shipping and I received my vacuum in less than 24 hours! That is awesome. Now on to the vac. Wow! I have a cat, a dog, 2 kids and a husband who tracks in all kinds of crap on his work boots and this sucker, sucked it all up. I vacuum on a daily basis (most of the time) and I plug this refurbished vac in that I was wary of buying, but for no reason. It came perfect condition, all the bells and whistles a package that included 2 cleaning products, snapped right together and there you have it. I tried it out and it lifted my over walked on carpet up, filled the canister immediately with dust, dirt and dog hair and that is gross to me. Called my hubby and raved about it. We had tossed around buying one for the price, but at the special price of 299.00 it ran yesterday we couldn't pass it up and I'm so glad that we didn't. My animals hair was really starting to get on my nerves and was so displeased with my current vacs lack of sucking power, but I didn't want to waste another [...] on a vac that wouldn't do it's job and 'd have to replace in a year or so. If this one lasts and holds out it's performance I'll be a Dyson fan for life.
Customer Review: Good price, product like new Summary: 5 Stars
I got this vacuum as a Gold Box deal. It was $250 below MSRP. The vacuum came packaged well and looked new. I'm not going to compare this to any other vacuum because I think that's too opinionated for me. First off, the design is very nice. The suction seems very good. The self-leveling brush head, although stiff, seems powerful. We don't have any delicate carpets in our house. I think the accessory hose is long compared to others I've used. And it's not as stiff and resistant to pull out the whole way like others I've used. The low reach tool has worked well on hardwood dust bunny cleanup. The mini turbine head that some people complain about works well for something powered by the suction itself and not an electric motor. I think it really shines on microfiber because it's so short and firm. I could see it getting bogged down on thicker pile. It works well on the dog beds too. Another concern of others is the weight and this vacuum isn't any heavier than my old bag-less vacuum. If you can't pick 20 lbs up then look elsewhere.
Negatives are the dirt that gets stuck up in the top of the dust container, the flimsy cord holders, the fact that you have to have the cord removed to access the accessory wand, and the limited warranty. But the significant savings was worth the risk to me.
