Tools and Hardware Reviews of Eco-heater 602 High-Efficiency Electric Panel Whole-Room HeaterCustomer Review: Great heater, but... Summary: 4 Stars
We needed a supplemental heater to gently warm a room since we keep our entire house temperature set at 55 (to save energy). We were using the portable electric space heaters (with a fan) to warm the room we were in. But we were afraid to leave these things on all day unattended or during the night, so we were constantly turning them off, then on again. Plus, the fans were noisy and irritating.
In our living room, we have an big, old, heavy wood stove that hasn't been used in years since the chimney was removed for another project. The stove is surrounded by brick on both the base and the back, so there is a lot of mass there. We tried one of these Eco Heaters and attached it to the back of wood stove between the stove and the brick. This way, it is invisible and we were hoping it would heat up the mass of the stove and also the brick. It took many hours of running to heat up everything but it works great. Heat is radiated by the stove and the brick backing and the room is kept comfortable. It can also be safely left on continuously, even when not home. With no fans and no visible heating element, it is quiet and safe.
I would have given this product 5 stars, but there is one huge problem. As soon as we removed the product from the packaging we noticed a horrible smell. This thing stunk up our entire home within 10 minutes. You get a slip of paper with it stating that there may be an odor for the first 24 hours of use. We installed it anyway hoping the smell would go away quickly. It was only operating for less than 1 hour when I began to feel a numbing sensation on lips, irritation in my mouth and my sense of smell diminished. Even the cat left the room and did not return. I could not stand the smell any longer and removed the heater from its location and placed it in the garage for 5 days with the door left open. My guess is that whatever ever the smell is, it is toxic and unhealthy. So, if you decide to buy one of these, please beware of the toxic fumes.
Customer Review: Good heater for a specific requirement Summary: 4 Stars
I first heard about this from another Amazon reveiwer that was reviewing another heater, and they ended up getting this one. I thought I would end up getting an oil filled heater, but there were a lot of reviews of quality problems, noise and fumes. This one seemed to fit the bill for my particular requirements, so I ordered one. It does not have thermostatic controls, just an on/off switch. We control it with a LUX win100 programmable outlet thermostat (see my review). Together the 2 products keep baby's room exactly at 70 degrees from 8:00PM to 7:30AM, allowing us to turn off the house furnace at night. It doesn't get hot enough to catch anything on fire or stink like a lot of higher wattage heaters. I also have a concern with adding a 1500 watt heater (most other heaters) to an already maxed 15 amp breaker. This is only a 400 watt unit. We are in northern california where it only gets down to the 40's or 50's at night outside. It works fine for us in a 10 x 12 room with the door closed. It does not run constantly to keep the room to 70, so I suppose it could keep up with colder weather. We've had no problems so far. It does not stink, make noise or get hot enough to burn you. One concern I had was how it would be when our baby turns into a toddler and finds in necessary to touch everything. It is supposed to be mounted low so the heat goes up and circulates, so it can't be placed out of reach of a child. It won't burn you if you touch it, but you will not want to touch it for more that a second! Hopefully, we can use it through the toddler stage without any injuries. Lastly, I don't quite get why it is so expensive, since it is just a large low wattage heating element (without even a thermostatic control). I would think a product like this would market for about $50.00 or so. Therefore 4 stars....otherwise I would give it 5 stars. Hopefully, it will last for a while... We are happy with it and would recommend it if it suits your needs.

Customer Review: Good for small spaces Summary: 4 Stars
Hi Everyone, Ive been reading reviews and I was getting more confused, not less confused! So I finally decided to just purchase one and see for myself! I first saw an advertisement for the Eco-Heater in Cat Fancy magazine touting it for pet rooms. We have two outside cats who come into the garage to sleep at night. We are in MS, so it's not the frozen tundra of the north, but we do get under freezing. Right now it's 10:30am and 35 degrees. My husband put in a insulated room of 7x7x6 for the cats. Most people have closets bigger then this! But it's in a totally unheated garage and the Eco-Heater warms it up great! It is perfect for pets who could other wise knock over a freestanding heater. It does get hot to the touch, but my cat rubbed up against it the other day and it didn't faze her.
But here is the caveat. I have a 14x14x8 bedroom with 6 windows and no central heat. I don't think even two of these would make it toasty enough. They might warm it up a bit, or if you could get them close to the bed. I'm speculating, but I really think these would work better in small enclosed spaces without drafts, such as a bonus room off of a bedroom or a small office, or if you have central heat and you just need this for supplemental heat. So I am not going to purchase these for my bedroom, because they are hard to get vendors to take them back and if I'm not happy with how they warm up the room I'm stuck with them. 3 of them might work, but then you are into $400.00. Plus I'm concerned with the reviews about the cracking and not lasting for more then a couple of years. Too much money if they don't last very long!
I hope this was helpful.
Customer Review: Eco-Heater Summary: 4 Stars
I bought the eco-heater because my daughter's room is always the coldest in the house during the winter. It's on the North West corner of the house and is the furthest room from the furnace. I've always been a little leery of space heaters in kid's rooms and have been looking for a good alternative. I ran across the eco-heater and decided to give it a try. Other then the mounting hardware could be better quality (broke out a wall anchor right away) it's been great. While I don't think that it would work as a sole heat source it does a great job of taking the chill out of the air at night. I am still waiting for the thermostat to get here so I just put the unit on a timer. When I go in to my daughter's room at night it's now the warmest in the house. It does take up a lot of wall space but it is relatively out of the way. The surface does get hot but not so hot that you would instantly burn yourself. You wouldn't want to keep your hands on it either. I would say it's like holding a hot cup of coffee. I think this is a great little heater and I would not hesitate to buy another.
Customer Review: We love this Summary: 4 Stars
I bought this for our second floor, which gets no heat. My 2 daughters room is freezing and the space heaters had to run all night to keep them warm. We bought his and it keeps the room very comfortable. Not as warm as a space heater would get, but the room is 12x17, larger than recommended. Our electric bill has been much lower. The first one we got was broken, so keep your receipt and packaging. They exchanged it right away and we had a new one. We are very happy with it and are planning on buying 2 more for the basement and the other upstairs bedroom. It takes up no room, does not get too hot, and does the job. Little children may not realize to take their hand off of it. My 19 month old knows not to touch it because it is hot. I can assume if a baby left their hadn on it that it could get burned, but it would take a while. Overall a great product.
