Tools and Hardware Reviews of Eureka Enviro Hard-Surface Floor Steamer,313A

Customer Review: Skeptical at first....
Summary: 5 Stars

First of all, I am an extremely skeptical person - I read countless positive and negative reviews about several different steam mops before chosing the Eureka 313A. I'll be honest, most of the time I think people are lying when they write extremely positive reviews because they are working for the company selling the product or receiving some sort of bonus for writing a good review - a conspiracy theory sort of thing. After reading some of the more negative reviews, I was definitely doubtful about how well the mop would actually work. I weighed the pros and cons from the reviews, and decided to order anyway.

The very first time I used it, I turned it on and placed in the tray provided and after just a few minutes, I noticed that quite a bit of water started to pool in the tray. I was a little discouraged at that point since I had read many negative reviews of water going everywhere - luckily I had placed it in the tray or I definitely would have had water everywhere. After noticing the pool of water in the tray, the "empty" light came on - this being approximately 4-5 minutes after I had turned it on. Again, I was starting to believe all of the negative reviews since there were those that said the steam didn't last long, but thought I would try again - maybe I didn't do something right. So, I refilled the mop and turned back on. The steam started coming out immediately and I was able to clean all of my hard surface floors (kitchen, hallways, and two bathrooms) - took me about 20 minutes total. It worked wonders and I couldn't believe how much easier it was than mopping with "dirty" water.

Since the very first time using, I have not had a problem with water pooling at all. The second time I used it, I was skeptical that water would pool again in the tray as I was waiting for it to "warm up", but it didn't at all. I have cleaned my floors several times already this week (after just opening last week) and have not yet had any other problems with this product. The steam lasts for a good 20 minutes with each fill and my floors dry within 5-10 minutes. I don't think you should expect anything spectacular when it comes to the drying time - your floors will still be wet in spots after 5-10 minutes, but overall they will dry pretty quickly. I wasn't expecting them to be dry immediately, so maybe that is why I'm okay with the drying time. Plus, they dry a lot faster using the steam mop than when I use the traditional "mop and bucket" method.

I definitely recommend the Eureka 313A to those who don't want to spend a ton of money on a steam mop!

Customer Review: A Clean Answer to Messy Mops
Summary: 5 Stars

I was looking for an cleaner alternative to lugging around a mop and bucket. Sure, the old tried and true mop and bucket does the job. But there comes a time when the old fashioned way has to give to modern conveniences. I reviewed all the steam floor cleaners from Consumer Reports and people who had hands on experience with the vast array of products on the market. The one that kept standing out was the Eureka 313A. It has the washable replacement pads, large tank and long cord. The swivel handle makes getting into tight corners a breeze. I have hard ceramic tile, not flat, has "ripple" wavy surface through out the house. This steam mop gets the entire surface clean. Even the recessed grout comes clean. I found if you go across the surface at a slow even pace, allowing the steam to penetrate the dirty surface, the floor comes out clean and shiny. Unlike the mop, this Steamer has the ability to clean the floor from edge to edge. Up against the molding where dirt likes to get pushed and hide, this steamer has the ability to clean the hard to reach nooks and crannies. My pet peeve with any floor cleaner weather it is a vacuum, broom or mop is the dirty junk left up against the toe molding. After vacuuming the floor thoroughly, I had no problem cleaning the floor as verified by the dirty cloth pad. Speaking of which, they provide two in the box with the steamer. I did not realize, or overlooked the fact and purchased an extra pad at $14. So now I have 3, which is fine. Always having a spare is a good thing. I have used the Swifter and it was a messing ordeal. Leaving the sticky, wet cleaning solvent all over the floor. Not to mention the dirty pads which never soaked up the water or really removed the dirt. The swifter seemed to push the dirt from one corner to the other, always leaving a mess. This steamer cleans up all the mess, NEVER leaving a residue on the floor. Eureka has always had excellent floor cleaning products, this is without any doubt true with their Hard Floor Steamer. The pad is easy to change, two large "paddles" is all you have to depress to release the pad from the unit and you do not really have to touch the dirty underside, just grab by the side of the pad and throw into the laundry with your other dirty rags. No Fuss No Muss. Get this product and all your "mystery" stains will vanish without any hard scrubbing, making washing the floor no big deal. The unit is light weight and telescoping handle, allowing everybody to use the product.

Customer Review: Squeaky clean!
Summary: 5 Stars

After years of slopping around the old sponge mop and getting frustrated with the dirt build up on the mop after only a couple of uses, I decided to look into a steam mop. Comparing the Shark against the Eureka, I chose this because of the swivel style, the water tank is closer to the floor, and the great reviews it had gotten. I was not disappointed.

I like being able to use the mop and then toss the pad into the washer. It recommends that you hand rinse it, but I think it gets cleaner in the washer, so I just air dry it to lessen shrinking. One person noted that it released a lot of water when she first tried it, and I had the same experience for one swipe across the floor. She was right as well, when she said it is operator error as you really need to wait until it starts steaming, like a clothes iron. After doing this one time, I make myself wait until it is actually ready to go, just 3-4 minutes. Then it works fine.

It makes the floor feel cleaner than the old sponge mop,and seems to get up the sticky spill spots on the floor much better because of the hot steam so that's a plus. I used it on my hardwood step(s) and it worked great! I love using it in the bathrooms to get up the over spray of hair products and such and it feels like it sanitizes the bathroom area.

The only complaints I have would be the complaints I have with any mop style. Sometimes you have to pick up debris with a paper towel as the cloth really doesn't pick up any missed loose dirt if missed during the sweeping stage, but again, neither did my old mop and it really doesn't get down into the grout lines very well, again neither did the old mop except that had a little brush on the end which helped some.

Weighing all the pluses and minuses, this steam mop is a keeper!! I would recommend this to anyone who wants to feel like their floor is cleaner when they are done mopping, not just moving dirt around the floor.

UPDATE: One year and one month later-IT DIED.....I still love it and will buy another one, but life expectancy isn't what I would have thought. I used it average 2 times a week and followed all the precautionary measures (emptying the tank out everytime). It still beats the old mop and bucket, but I will do some research on the same style, maybe different brand. Tank on the bottom is a must though!

Customer Review: A fantastic cleaning tool
Summary: 5 Stars

Receive this as a gift. My parents had one and they have a house with tile through-out their main floor and love it. I have a large tiled kitchen/pantry/laundry area and had tried two other methods to keep this area clean: various types of mops and a carpet steamer/cleaner with brushes that can be used on tile floors. This Steamer Mop is a great improvement over both those other methods for me so far. Here's why I think that:

Traditional Mop- It's a pain (heavy) to get a big bucket of soapy water prepared and lug it around the area. Dried on sticky stuff from kids sometimes takes a lot of very aggressive scrubbing to clean up. This method requires the most energy due to the scrubbing and I have to change the water at least once during the process. Floor is also still very wet when I'm done.

Hoover Carpet steamer/Cleaner- Heard from friend this works great on tile. It does have some advantages over mopping. Cleaner deposits water/cleaner solution, brushes do the scrubbing and it then sucks up the dirty water. Problem for me is that I still need to dump and re-fill water container at least once during the process and although it sucks up a lot of water, floor is still definitely wet when I 'm done and I need to towel it down, or wait 30 mins to walk on it.

Eureka Enviro Steamer- I was surprised by how effectively it removed the dirt. It really, really works! When floor is especially dirty I have to refill it before job is done, but for regular maintenance, a single filling is enough for entire area. It's not heavy to push around, and pushes quite smoothly. The floor dries FAST! No need to go around with towels afterward or having to wait 30mins to use the room again. I find this is definitely the quickest way to get the job done and requires least amount of effort on my part. Only complaint I have is that from what I can see pads have gone from $19.99 for two to $19.99 for just one. I think that's a complete rip-off. Cleaner comes with two, which is all I need to get the job done. I read another post from someone who said she wraps regular towels around the head instead. I think I'll try this in the future if I ever have to use more than two.

If you have a tile floor and are not happy with your current method, this is definitely worth a try!

Customer Review: I LOVE this floor cleaner!
Summary: 5 Stars

The Eureka Enviro Steamer is FABULOUS!! No more squirting anything on the floor, no buckets of water, no wringing, no streaks from the cleaner, no water marks, no having to go back and dry the floor with a towel. I have different mops, squirt-and-mop cleaners, and a Swiffer floor cleaner with unused bottles of refills, which I am absolutely certain I will never touch again until I decide to get them out of our garage. If my Enviro Steamer ever loses its steam (ha ha) I will promptly replace it with another.

It works on any hard surface floor: wood, tile, vinyl, Pergo. It uses only tap water...in fact, they warn against putting any kind of cleaner or scent in it. You put 12 oz of water in it, plug it in, turn it on, and it heats up to 220 degrees in about one minute. As you mop it sterilizes the floor because the water is so hot, and it dries almost instantly for the same reason. Filling it up twice is all it takes to mop all the hard floors in my house. There's a light that comes on when the water needs refilling. It comes with two waffly cotton pads. After you use them you toss them in the washer.

I really don't like to clean house and this makes the absolute worst chore so easy, and the floors look great afterwards. In my main living area I have dark wood floors with a smooth satin finish, no wood grain texture on the surface to help disguise smears and smudges.... I've cursed my choice of flooring ever since we got it, because it NEVER looked clean. After mopping you could see right where I mopped and the direction I mopped in, and footsteps where someone walked before it was all the way dry. The Enviro Steamer leaves absolutely no marks, no smudges, no evidence of mopping... just a gleaming spotless floor.

I checked over the bad reviews of this item, and most of those comments sound to me as if the heating element wasn't working properly. I picked this floor steamer over others because I read an extremely in-depth review and comparison (on Amazon) of this one and a few others, including the Shark version. I appreciate all the hard work that person put into evaluating these because I feel confident I picked the best one, which is not the most expensive one.
