Tools and Hardware Reviews of Eureka Enviro Hard-Surface Floor Steamer,313ACustomer Review: Steamy Suprise!!!! Summary: 5 Stars
I can not recommend this product enough. I did quite and extensive search before puchasing this particular product. The previous reviews about the comparisons were what sold me. True enough, they were exactly right on it all. This steamer heats up very quickly which is a pleasant suprise. It is very light-weight so no struggling with it even as "bulky" as it looks. I was afraid to really attempt this on my laminate floors considering I wasn't quite sure of the amount of water it would leave standing. I decided that since I had some extra flooring stashed away I would try it on that first. What a pleasant suprise there too. You can tell where you have run the steamer but the amount of water that is left isn't even enough to look at. I was curious enough to see just whether it would exactly clean to the extent that everyone claimed it would. It most certainly does. I have natural hardwood flooring in my living area which I have had professionally cleaned before. Naturally, that doesn't seem to be in the budget any more. With 2 very active small children and 4 dogs, this part of the house certainly takes a beating. Living in an area where you can certainly get all 4 seasons in one day doesn't help either. This steamer has become my new best friend for sure!!!
There was what I considered a ground in stain in my hard wood. Apparently the mop just wasn't doing the trick because the steamer took it right up. I was so shocked. I mopped both kids rooms and swept then took this gem right straight in to both of them. I never realized just how much dirt and germs and grime were left. I have recommended this to every single one of my friends and family. If there was anything terribly bad about this product it would be that it isn't small enough to get under things but that isn't anything I could really complain about considering the amount of work it already does. I can save the rest for the proverbial spring cleaning when I rearrange furniture and such for all that I suppose. However, this little machine does such an excellent job I may do that more frequently knowing how easy it is to clean the floors now. Also to know that it heats as high as it does and gets the germs is just an added bonus.
Customer Review: Surprised Me! Summary: 5 Stars
Six months ago, I would not have given a second thought to buying a steam mop. I "KNEW" they were all junk and would not clean my floors, and I was fairly satisfied with my Swiffer Wet Jet, along with occasional wet mopping.
Then my friend Liz bought one of these Eurekas and told me how good it was. She had based her purchase on the wonderful and thorough review by A. Chandler, and others. I trust Liz' judgement and decided to look into it.
I read pages of reviews on Amazon (why shop anywhere else?)and also was impressed by A. Chandler's work on this item. At $[...] with free shipping, it looked like a great bargain to me, so I asked for it as a Christmas gift. (Yeah, don't want my family spending our hard earned money on frivs and bebobles, and I do research my wish list...ALWAYS!) So Christmas day I unwrapped my new baby, and took 'er for a spin.
I had a pretty good idea of what to expect since I had read deep into the reviews. But there was that little part of me that doubted that it would clean well.
I was very surprised and happy. It cleaned well from the get-go, and after using about 5 times, I can say it gets better and better as the cloths get washed and broken in. What I really love is that is dries so fast!
I did miss the nice smell that my Swiffer left in the house. So I came up with a fix for that.
I have made my own freshener for years...great for an air freshener, perfect to freshen dog beds, clothes, beds etc. I simply mix cheap rubbing alcohol 50/50 with water and add a few drops of essential oil...I like natural distilled peppermint, rosemary or eucalyptus. Then I put it in a clean spray bottle.
So now when I use my steam mop, I spray the CLOTH before I mop, and the heat from the steam volatilizes the oil and the fragrance goes through the whole house. It smells so good. I prefer the NOW brand of essential oil, and a small bottle lasts for years as it only takes a few drops to fill my spray bottle.
Happy mopping!
Customer Review: As good as it was years ago, with a bit shorter cord Summary: 5 Stars
A number of years ago, 8, maybe more, we bought a Eureka steam mop on recommendation of a friend and seeing hers in action. It was wonderful. We loved that you did not need special water. We live in the country and have well water. In hindsight, perhaps we should have used distilled water, as after about 5 yrs. use, or more, it finally quit producing steam.
We searched Walmart, Target, Shopko, Sears...could not find another Eurkea. We ended up buying a Shark at Costco...what a waste of money. It felt like the handle was going to break every time we used it. Our linoleum floor is wore and somewhat pitted - the Eureka worked great, the Shark did not. After approx. 12 mo. the Shark quit and was put on the curb.
We've been without a steamer for a long time now, and getting on hands and knees was a lot of work. We wanted a Eureka again. I was thrilled when I came across this on amazon.com, and free shipping no less! I ordered mine last week and it was put to use for the first time today.
I will say this model has a cord about 6 ft. shorter than our original Eureka floor steamer. The pads seem extra wide - and I do know, this time, not to put them in the dryer. If you read the manual, it is quite specific about that. It also recommends distilled water if you have hard water. We will definitely do this as we never want to be without our Eureka steamer again. (At least I know were to look next time.)
It cleaned our old pitted kitchen floor really well. We also ran it over the Pergo flooring in the living room, being careful not to let it sit at all on the flooring - just kept it moving.
With some of the previous reviews I half expected the steamer to leak water in the first couple of uses. It did not. I did keep the steamer flat on the floor while initially adding water, as the manual instructs. I think if people take the time to review a manual, even though the machine is quite basic, one might avoid some of the issues that have been mentioned. I would have given our first Eureka a 5 star and am happy to do so again.
Customer Review: A Healthy Way To Clean Summary: 5 Stars
I've had friends whose pets have gotten sick from various cleaning products. Having a small dog (whose nose is very close to the floor) I have tried to make my own green cleaning solutions but sometimes they don't clean as well as I'd like. When I saw this Eureka Enviro Floor Steamer, I loved that it cleans with only steam.
When it arrived, it only required the handle to be screwed on and it was ready to go. The instruction manual was easy to follow regarding filling and using the steamer. I plan to use a marker to label the plastic measuring cup and funnel since many appliances seem to come with different versions of these things. I used it the first night and it took about 4 minutes for the steamer to be hot enough to use. As most have said, the first time you use it, a lot of water does come out but I was prepared for that. The second time I used it, very little water was left on the floor. I have to remind myself to hold the steamer over the dirtier spots for at least 8 seconds to get them clean, but that is my problem, not the steamers. The cord could be a bit longer but that is a small complaint. I guess I could use an extension cord if I really wanted to clean my downstairs without changing outlets.
It doesn't clean corners very well, but I do like that it is short enough to get under furniture and cabinets. I don't think my floors have been this clean since they were new. I'm not a natural born cleaner but I'm finding myself looking for floors that need steam-cleaned. Despite a few minor complaints, I still give it 5 stars - and I'm sure my dog will be healthier because of the chemical-free floors.
UPDATE: After 3 uses, the steamer quit working. I found an authorized warranty shop and took it there. It took about 10 days but they had to send it back to the company and I received a new one - maybe refurbished. I've used it once and it works great. I sure hope it lasts a long time because I still love how it cleans my floors. I am glad that it has a year warranty.
Customer Review: Look no further for a easy way to clean hardwood, tile or laminate Summary: 5 Stars
This is a well built product. It's structure and tank are similar to my professional garment steamer. I have no doubt that this product will last a long time due to the simplicity of construction. I have 1800 sq ft of hardwood, tile and laminate. It does great on all 3. My floors haven't been this clean since they were installed. I have a 3 year old boy and here is a list of things the steamer has gotten off my floor easily. I don't know what this says about our cleanliness, but here goes:
* dried soda pop
* partially eaten candy peppermint dried to the floor in a puddle of what must have been saliva, that previously would only have come off with a scraper or hours of soaking in standing water (not good for hardwood)
* smashed and dried brownies
* smashed and dried Reese's peanut butter cups
* overspray from acrylic airbrush paint that has been there for at least 5 years
* dripped candle wax, a total surprise, it took about 10 seconds
* a host of various other unidentified sticky and gooey spots
Things it took more effort to remove:
* glue residue from items such as bandaids, duct tape and double sided foam sticky tape
Things it will not remove no matter how much you try:
* hot glue
* dried paint, it will get thin swipes, but not drips
PRO's: light weight, all of the weight is on the floor, pads are thick and clean larger area than Swiffer products and do a better job of it, which makes it more economical and environmentally friendly, EASY to use, less scrubbing, will fit underneath bed, work on/off switch with your foot, stands by itself,
CON's: only 15 minutes of steam per fill up, head is too big to fit under toe kick of cabinets or sofa, but I had to move it before so no loss there
If I had known these things were this easy, I would have gotten one years ago. The only thing that would make it more perfect would be if someone else would do it for me.
