Tools and Hardware Reviews of Electrolux Oxygen Canister Vacuum Cleaner, EL6988ECustomer Review: Research Summary: 5 Stars
I was quite confused when I first started doing research on electorlux. My mother, and her mother, have always owned electrolux vacuums. This electrolux is not the same company that has been doing business in the U.S. under the electrolux name in the past. The old electrolux has changed their name to Aerus Electrolux. Electrolux is an international company that states on their website "Electrolux is the world's largest producer of appliances and equipment for kitchen, cleaning and outdoor use." In the United States they do business under the familiar names: Eureka, Frigidaire, Poulan, Weed Eater, and now thier upscale brand Electrolux.OK, on to the vacuum. I bought mine after much research at Lowe's. While opening and putting the thing together, a small clip that holds the power head on the shaft broke off. I called the company and they said they would send me a new piece with out much hassle, but then got a call back 15 minutes later saying that since the product was so new, it might take 2 months to send me a replacement part and suggested I just return it for a new one to Lowe's. My over all experience with thier customer support leads me to beleive that I won't have too many problems dealing with them in the future. My second vacuum unpacked fine and after a couple uses I'm quite satisfied with it's performance. The carpet powerhead does very well on my rugs, and even does ok on hard floors. The hard floor attachment is more than a foot wide and makes quick work of the hard wood in my house but is so wide you have to switch it for the corner tool to get around most furnature. I was impressed with the suction from the vacuum, even before I noticed that I only had it turned up half way :) So I'll try to sum up the pros and cons. Pro: Cool looking Nice cord length and roll up storage Wide reach on the attachments Small size of the canister Does a good job of sucking up small stuff Bags are just more than $1 each (for the standard bags) Easily turn on and off the roller on the power head Both the hard floor attachment, and the power head easily go under beds and couches Con: Hard to deteach the hose from the canister for storage Power head won't work on bath mats I'll post again in a few months when I see how it's holding up.
Customer Review: Powerful vacuum great for pet hair Summary: 5 Stars
I also researched this product before buying, looking for a vacuum that would be good for pet hair on both hardwood floors and area rugs. This one was rated best, and was less expensive than some others not so well rated.
I have one of the other (not red in color) Electrolux cannister vac's that I thought was a good vacuum, but just wasn't doing that well now that there are two hairy dogs in the house.
I'm very happy with this vacuum. On bare floors, it draws light weight pet hair into the vacuum from areas around the powerhead (instead of blowing it away.) As other reviews indicated, on rugs or carpet, it is sort of lightly self-propelled. The handle with a large loop to it works well with this feature, making it easy to steer the powerhead. The brush and crevice tool have on board storage. I'm using the powerhead on bare floors as well as rugs.
It is NOT hard to detach the power head/wand from the hose/cannister for storage. (It works like my old Electrolux, so I didn't need need the instructions, but these are very clear, and the pictures are helpful.) Please note: there are gray release buttons on the wand. The step-on pedal is to unlock the wand from the upright position to a free angled position. It doesn't detach anything. I'm afraid that the person who was stepping on this to knock down the vacuum used brute force to disassemble the thing, and it's no wonder the vacuum is in the shop.
There is more plastic and less metal on this vacuum than on the older (not red) Electrolux's. Its also a lot lighter weight, more compact, and easier to carry.
Cons: With the powerhead running, this is not a quiet vacuum. (Dogs will run and hide.) I think this may be the loudest vacuum I've ever had, but it works the best.
Customer Review: Strong suction, light , quiet, and reasonably priced. Summary: 5 Stars
This product is rated #1, though not "Best Buy" by Consumer Reports (CR). I read all reviews , those of lower ranking canister vacuum cleaners, and CR's "Best Buy" pick. In the end, I decided to go with the Oxygen, and have not been disappointed.
It is light and quiet, with excellent suction power. It cleans my tile and wood floors beautifully before I mop. I do not have carpets or rugs (allergy problems)
The accessory tools DO have a storage place under the handle, and do not fall off as easily, as one reviewer complained. The upholstery attachment has to be stored elsewhere, yes, but I do not use it daily, so I store it my pantry.
Shopping around online, I was able to find one at a lower price, with no tax and S&H charges. The order came quickly, in pristine packaging and condition.
I am glad I bought this canister vacuum cleaner, and would recommend it highly.
FOLLOW-UP: With rough handling and if hitting the storage area, the accessories can to fall off, but considering its performance with the following accident, I still rate it very high.
Inadvertently, I turned my head to do something else with my other hand, and my hand holding the hose drifted, and the cleaning head went into a bucket of water. I stopped the engine, tipped body of vacuum cleaner, and a quart of water came out. The bag was soaked wet, as were the filters. I removed and discarded all of them. I left the vacuum cleaner upside down to dry....more water came out. After 3 days or so, it WORKED as if nothing had happened....Whew!
Customer Review: Best. Vacuum. Ever. Even though it punched my mom in the face! Summary: 5 Stars
I did a lot of homework before deciding to buy this bad boy. I am not a vacuum expert nor do I really vacuum. I bought this as a Mother's Day gift for mama-dukes. Well, what I heard from her was that this was by far the best vacuum she had ever used, and not simply because I bought it for her for Mother's Day. This thing is very quiet compared to any vacuum I've ever heard in our house. I don't even hear it when I am in a different room. It is so quiet that it deceivingly feels a little weak. But it is ANYTHING but weak.. specially when you turn on the spinning motor thingie (it gets a little louder with that on, but not so bad.) MY GOD, this thing sucks up EVERYTHING! Not in a bad way where it destroys your carpets or eats your cat, but in a good way that it really digs up dirt in between the carpet and makes vacuuming a joy and extremely effortless. Oh and if you were wondering how it punched my mom in the face.. well, while she was vacuuming under my bed, she bent down for a second to get something and the vacuum spinner thing was on and it sucked up her hair, lifted up off the floor and smacked right into her face. The funny(?) thing was, she couldn't reach the off switch on the handle to turn off the motor! We all had a good laugh about it and she had a bloody lower lip for about a week. My poor mom. She has a great sense of humor though.. she laughs every time she tells the story. Anyway, GREAT vacuum.. buy one!
Customer Review: Really Nice Vacuum Summary: 5 Stars
I bought this vaccum after developing allergies for the first time. My parents have had an elextrolux for the past 25 years and it has always worked great. Although Eureka is now making these electrolux vaccums I expect that in order to preserve the integrity of the name they will make every effort to make sure this product line is up to standard, and I think they have succeded in this regard. Contrary to the other reviews I took my vaccum home and was able to connect all of the pieces by myself without any problems. The bags are small, but so is the vaccum. If you want bigger bags chose an upright, but beware, the hepa filtration on those units is not as good. The filter and bags are easy to acess. The power head is very sturdy but has a little trouble standing on its own- it can do it, but will fall down with the slightest breeze. The vaccum is very quiet. To test the suction I first vaccumed with my old vaccum and then revaccumed with this one. I was very impressed. I could hear every piece of sand and crumb climbing up the hose- and there was a lot!!! It even has a light so you can vaccum in the dark, or in a dark corner. The head seems to move itself effortlessly across the room. If you are considering this machine, don't be afraid of the other reviews. I did not experience their woes.
