Tools and Hardware Reviews of Equity by La Crosse SkyScan 31420 Travel Atomic Alarm ClockCustomer Review: Waste of money! Summary: 2 Stars
I have tried to get used to this clock but there is no loving it! I cannot easily (or even with effort) see the display. The blacklight is difficult to trigger when one is in the dark and the yellow background is, oh so, difficult from which to discern the display numbers.
Setting this clock is not very easy, either. As I travel from time zone to time zone, I have to manually set the zone via a confusing and hard-to-see menu. I have had, however, no problem with the signal being picked up so this clock does accurately display the hour and minute (dependent upon my getting the correct time zone set).
I am terribly disappointed and will be getting rid of this travel clock as soon as I can find a decent replacement.
Customer Review: Snooze...an ongoing investigation Summary: 2 Stars
So I bought this clock to replace one of my beloved Brookstone travel clocks. Our apartment was pretty crappy at the time but in the living room, the clock synced up fast as lightning which made me very impressed. The clock was so easy to set up that I had 'er up and running in less than 15 minutes.
However, the real showstopper happened when I tested the alarm. The snooze repeats itself every five minutes as the manual said, but one can only do it for two rounds. How bad is that I mean come on! Technology these days!
So what happened, the next afternoon I went to my local drugstore and got a refund for this *** of a *****. I love the nice flip and I love to snooze but if I can only do it for two rounds, it's pointless!
Customer Review: Controls too difficult Summary: 2 Stars
I finally got my clock set up after getting out a paper clip and doing one reset.....but there are so many small atomic clocks that are simple to use that I would not reccomend this clock, and definitely not to anyone who wants a travel clock to use in different time zones. I never did see an icon that showed the clock changing from Pacific to Eastern time zone...(there was this one tiny thing that might have been it but it was so small I couldn't read it) .....I finally just counted three times as I pressed the + button. I gave it 2 stars because I thnk I will like using the clock at my home (not for travel).....
Customer Review: Hard to set Summary: 2 Stars
The instructions say to set it in a window and the unit will set itself but when I did it set itself for 3 hours earlier than my time zone and I don't see how I can change it.
Customer Review: Useless travel clock Summary: 1 Stars
"Ahhh" I thought, "A travel clock that automatically adjusts time zones, how handy". Totally wrong in this case. Well, actually right. It does adjust time zones, just not the right direction! What is worse, the clock can be set manually for the correct time, but then, some hours later, typically in the middle of the night, it decides that it knows better and changes your clock's time--back in my case, so that the time in one instance was an hour earlier (it read 5 AM instead of 6 AM--when I had to get up to catch a plane). Then, I traveled further West to California and it decided to set itself back by 2 hours. A broken clock is more accurate--at least it's correct twice a day! It does have a manual time zone set feature and will cycle between E,C M & P, but I swear that the automatic set feature overrules it! This also defeats the purpose of having an auto-set clock. Further thoughts: this clock is on the large size for a travel clock and it's not easy to adjust. The time display is decent, and I like having a temperature display too. The orange back light is on the dim side and some rubber feet would be nice to prevent it marring a tabletop and not slipping when touched. My recommendation: forget buying a travel clock with atomic time setting. You'll never be certain it is going to act correctly and consistently. Perhaps other brands work more reliably than this one, but how will you know? What happens if you travel outside the US?
