Tools and Hardware Reviews of Eureka 4870HZ Boss SmartVac Upright Vacuum, BlueCustomer Review: Fabuloso! Summary: 5 Stars
I really like this machine. Really, really like it. And I hate vacuums. It's unnatural how much I like it. It works great, is convenient, and happens to be the best value I could find.
The handle release switch almost caused me to return it, but I figured it out after two uses. Here's how to make it work smoothly: * Press the handle forward, * Press the release switch with your whole foot (it takes some pressure; toes won't work, but the outside of my right foot works fine), and * gently pull the handle back.
Follow the manual and use a height setting that lets the brushes just contact the carpet to avoid burning up belts. Scrubbing the carpet at a low height doesn't clean better and wears both the machine and the carpet out faster.
PROS:
** Using attachments is convenient; they don't stick out and stay where they're put. Switching from floor to attachments is easy, too, and the suction is great. I'm surprised how much I like the power paw.
** Nothing will revive my 15 year old carpet, but this really cleans deeply. It even pulled the cat hair out of the jute area rug, which has no pile.
** The cord clip on the handle makes cord handling a snap. When using attachments I unclip the cord so it comes from the bottom and won't tip the machine over.
** The cord is long enough; I only have to move the plug once to do my 1500 square foot apartment.
** The brush roll stops when the handle is upright and you can switch it off when you're pushing the vacuum around unplugged. Few vacuums in this price range have that option.
** It takes up less room in the closet than my canister vac did.
** It's heavy duty, which means it's not great for someone who's frail or has back/shoulder problems. But heavy means solid, which is what I want.
CONS:
** It's a vacuum cleaner. Really, I hate vacuums, though this one inspires me to clean more often.
THINGS I DON'T CARE ABOUT:
Noise (I hate vacuums, remember?), hose length (could have bought the GZ instead), hard floor cleaning (don't need it).
Overall I'm very satisfied. I bought an extended warranty but don't expect to need it.
Customer Review: Great Vacuum, Great Value Summary: 5 Stars
After bringing 2 large dogs into the family and seeing that my old vacuum couldn't keep up with all the pet hair, I decided to shop around for the best vacuum I could afford that was also picked up pet hair well. After researching reviews, I chose this vacuum and have not been disappointed.
My wife laughs at how happy I was the first time I used it. It was amazing to me, the first couple times I vacuumed with it, how much grit and sand tracked in the front door that it was sucking out of the carpets that my old vacuum cleaner had left behind. Additionally, after using this vacuum my carpets felt more plush and stood up again, something that my old vacuum didn't do. A side benefit was that it was much quieter than my previous vacuum.
The best features of Boss Smart Vac include:
1) The suction performance - getting all the hair and grit out of the carpets
2) The 30' cord - its so nice to plug in to one outlet to clean the entire level of my house
3) The flexible hose and attachments - they make stopping to clean a corner or windowsill a snap
4) The price - this vacuum competes with others that cost 3X more
I have had the vacuum for 9 months now and have not had anything break or quit working as some reviews warn. I clean the beater bar after each vacuuming (takes under a minute) and empty the bags when they get 2/3 full (a carpet cleaner once told me thats the best way to extend the life of a vacuum). I couldn't be happier with this purchase!
***UPDATE***
I have now had this vacuum for over 3 years and it still works as good as new. I replaced the belt with the replacement that came with the vacuum and gave it a thorough cleaning after year 2, and it made it just like new. I am super pleased with the reliability and the sustained suction power. Keep changing the bags regularly and change the filter annually.
Customer Review: Winning over pet hair on bare floors and carpet. Summary: 5 Stars
I have 3 large dogs, the smaller weighing in at 57 pounds and the largest at 152 pounds. Two are short hair and one is long hair. I have four cats as well, 3 short hair and one long hair, and four free range rabbits all indoor pets. Recently moving into an old farmhouse with hardwood floors my old vacuum just could not handle the pet hair on the floor. It just blew it around. With this new vacuum, highly rated by Consumer Reports for it's ability to clean up pet hair i am so frickin happy that i am besides myself. This vacuum has suction to spare, the bare floor adjustment is steller and the exhaust is located about four inches up off the floor so the vacuum doesn't blow the hair around. On the carpet it has so much suction that it can lift the area rugs off the floor if I fail to adjust the level of the brush. I am extremely happy with this vacuum. My only complaint would be and this is not really a complaint but it would be nice if it had a little larger vacuum bag. One thing is for sure, i will never go back to an bagless model again, they are just too much of a hassle. I highly recommend this vacuum.
Customer Review: This vacuum is flawless. Summary: 5 Stars
Consumer Reports rated an earlier version (4870) as a "best buy." By the time their articles went to print, two models 4870HG and 4870HZ, were released and neither has had a price increase. I bought the recent HZ from Amazon.com and it was delivered UPS in two days in a tall box which told me it was already assembled. Assembly for attachements and a reading the instructions was a 3 minute process. It is much quieter than my prior 1999 Hoover Bag Model and Bissell 2003 Bagless, both of which still ran but did not pick up much. It picks up so much and so fast, you won't have to waste $150 to have your carpets cleaned (assuming no embedded stains like grape juice). You will love it. There is not enough space on here to say all the great things about it. The price ended up including a second replacement bag and a replacement drive belt. Too many great features to mention here.
Customer Review: Works well but minor problems Summary: 5 Stars
This vacuum works very well and I am very happy with it. Our previous vacuum was an Oreck XL 8 pounder that was totally useless. Prior to that we had a Eureka and I loved it. I will never stray again, I promise!
Likes:
1) Vacuum! Man this thing has huge suction power.
2) The bag. Give me a bag any day. Whoever thought that bagless was clean never dumped one on the floor, let alone in a trash can. I do NOT want to ever see or smell that mess again! In a bag, it's gone forever!
3) The hose attachements. The hose is plenty long to reach up a flight of 9 stairs and vacuum the treads and such.
Minor dislikes
1) It's heavy. It needs to be to have powerful suction.
2) The brush switch doesn't work. Who cares.
Best vacuum I've ever had and cheap at twice the price compared to Oreck.
Buy it - you'll like it.
