I have a regular steam cleaner that rolls on wheels but it is a pain to set up and heat for a small job. Knowing how effective steam cleans i decided to get a hand held. i decided on the europro sc505 because it has a larger water capacity which translates to longer cleaning time. i read all the negative reviews and was somewhat hesitant but after looking at the scunci and comparint it with the sc505 i bought the sc505 at Target. i didn't buy it on line because i didn't want any grief if the thing didn't work and i had to return it. i started by cleaning some of my tools, worked great. Then i hit the kitchen stove and counters and faucet. it doesn am amazing job on the fixtures, never get them to sparkle like this. It's the steam.
i will give one bit of advise. When you fill the tank and the unit heats up for the first time you MUST anticipate that some water is going to come out of the nozzle because the hose is cold and the steam condensates. Howwever, once it is heated, which takes about 4 seconds (i just aim mine into the rag) you will get a vapor steam which is very effective at removing dirt.
i do small sections at a time and then stop the steam and wipe the area, and continue doing so. By doing this, the steam is always ready.
This morning i was finishing some furniture. My wife asked me to clean some chairs that were put away for the winter. So i took them into my computer room, which was just done over and the carpet is new. i foolishly hit a tall bookcase that i was refinishing and knocked over a full quart of orange schllach. i just froze. i quickly sopped up the excess and began to attempt to remove the stain. i couldn't get any of the stain out. Luckily i had been using my steamer on the chairs and and sprayed the stain with steam. i then put on some oven cleaner, yes, oven cleaner (they use it on car upholstery in body shops, just don't get it on your skin) and let it sit for about four minutes. i then put the steam on the stain again and it just came right up. Of course there is no suction so you have to keep using a towel to remove the moisture. My wife couldn't find the spot i had cleaned. so, in effect, the unit more than paid for itself today. Remember that information about stains and oven cleaner, if you ruin something, well, it would have been a loss anyway.
You will not find a better product for cleaning windows or grout.
We spray our walls and wash them. i even use it on wood, but don't hold the want too close and do a section at a time. i bought some terry towels at Home Depot, ten dollars for twenty. i use them all the time.
But, the best thing about the whole process is the use of steam. It is NATURAL, STERILIZES everythign and it eliminates the risk of chemical comtamination. My wife is a clean freak and she was surprised at the "crud" that came out of the corners and around the sink.
I have it five stars because it is a good unit. i am concerned about the product reliability as some of the reviews were not that positive. But, i went to a reliable store so if there is a problem, back it goes.
