Customer Review: Working around its quirks

I just finished doing the whole 1800 sq ft house with my new Shark. I've had it just long enough (3-4 sessions) to work around its bugs and quirks.
First, you almost cannot get a backup battery. They're no longer on the open market. You have to call an extremely unreliable-sounding number, answered by people whose English is scarce at best and to whom I wouldn't trust my cc number just to buy -- what? -- they sounded as though they knew nothing about model numbers. In my view, it's not quite kosher for Amazon to let this go without notifying customers.
I called Euro-Pro customer service. They said, yes, that's the only way to get the new battery pack. Period. However, they did give out some very useful tips about charging the battery. First time, as it says in the manual, 25 hours of charge. The next three times, 20 hours each. Then it goes down to about 10. I find that if I let the charge run out completely (very important, even if you have to leave it in a corner, humming away, until it dies) each time it's used. Then put the battery on charge and leave it there until the next session. Today's experience shows the Shark takes more than half an hour to lose useful power, and another ten minutes to die completely.
Note, I always put it on half power for the first 15 minutes, on full power for the second 15 minutes. That seems to be part of the magic. And it still does a very good job.
Empty the container regularly. Clean the brushes (easy!) each time.
For those who need comparisons, this house has an all-Spanish-tile floor, no rugs. Two shedding dogs and one monster shedder of a cat, a Himalayan! The house is on a dusty ranch road in rural Texas. Dust, leaves, grass, animal hair, bugs, more dust, unidentified dead bodies, burrs, pill bugs, grass, you name it.
So far the Shark is great. I don't hate cleaning as much as I did with a huge, ambitious, noisy Oreck (which is good for rugs when they're in use). To get around the (expensive, impossible to get) back-up battery problem, I decided this morning to come in here and order a second Shark. That way I always have plenty of power to take my time and don't have to worry it's going to fade. Sound eccentric? The second battery pack by itself costs nearly the same. Two Sharks still cost less than one fancy Hoover Stik Vac which will cost you about $160 with another $60 for a back-up battery pack.
If further use shows the Shark -- or Shark Deux -- isn't living up to its billing, I'll report back.
