I am starting a vermiculture project so to keep the worms happy in their new castle I needed something to put kitchen scraps in. This works just fine. As a smaller household I didn't want to get involved in large outdoor compost projects and didn't want to spend the money on the very nice composting bins out there. So this was an easy way to go from bucket to worm castle. As I become familiar with how fast they eat, and keeping them happy if there are any extras they will go into a shallow pit outside where nature can do its thing in a compost pile. Very handy and I actually had stuff in there for over two weeks and there was absolutely no odor.
