Tools and Hardware Reviews of Flowbee Haircutting SystemCustomer Review: I've already saved $3600 for a family of 2!!! Summary: 5 Stars
My husband got our first Flowbee 10 years ago. We haven't been to a proessional for hair cuts since. People can't believe I do my own hair. He started shaving his head 2 years ago, so our savings might have been better had he continued using it.
Him: 12 cuts/yr x 8 yrs x $12 = $1152
Me: 14 cuts/yr x 10 yrs x $18 = $2520
Total Saved: $1152 + $2520 = $3672 - $70 (purchase price) = $3600
I've read that other units just stopped working. Ours got dull blades -- the hair gets sucked up into the cutting head past the blades, but it doesn't cut it off. And I regularly used the oil. Now I'm getting another. $2520 versus another $70 purchase makes that a must.
I highly recommend this product. You can still make a mistake and cut your hair too short, but those who are afraid can use the extensions and remove them one at a time until you get the length you like best.
Eventually you know which one(s) work best for you. I use one set for the back and sides, and another for the top.
Customer Review: Quick, easy, reliable and cheap! Summary: 5 Stars
For years we made fun of the Flowbee - who wouldn't? Then my brother, who is a handsome and successful lawyer, proudly admitted that he had used one for years. He's too busy to schedule a haircut, but he can just whip out the Flowbee that he keeps in his office closet, and cut his hair anytime. Looks great! I figured if it was good enough for him, I could try it. I absolutely despise setting aside time for a haircut.
My husband and I have been using it for years now, and have saved hundreds and hundreds of dollars. Every year or two, I get an urge to get a professional cut, and I am more likely to hate it than love it. With the Flowbee, I'll be happy every time. The only drawback to it is that my kids think it's hilarious to tell people that their parents use a Flowbee. And, well, I guess it is. But our hair looks good!
Incidentally, the dogs don't like it much, because the vacuum is loud. But wow - to trim 3 dogs, without one hair getting on me? That's amazing. I don't much like it when they poo in my yard, so we're even.
Customer Review: Two flobees have saved me thou$$ands... Summary: 5 Stars
I don't know when I got my first flowbee. Maybe 20 years ago, because my son is 15, and I had it way before that.
All I know is that I have cut my own hair, and that of my 3 sons, hundreds of times. They have never been to a barber. I can give them anything from buzz cuts, to longer, more layered cuts.
Actually, they like it because they can get a haircut anytime. No trips to the barber, no waiting in line, and for Dad--no paying money for a barber. If you figure $10 a haircut, I literally have save thousands and thousands of dollars. It only takes about 5-10 minutes, so no telling how much time I saved too. You probably need a pair of clippers, to trim around the ears and in the back.
I don't think it would work well if you had longer hair (e.g. longer than 4"), or if your hair was really curly. But for most situations, it works great. You just need to have a good vacuum with a hose, and you're good to go.
Go ahead and laugh--I am laughing all the way to the bank.
Customer Review: WORTH EVERY CENT Summary: 5 Stars
Thought about buying one several times, but didn't take the plunge until my hairdresser (for 10 years) left town and I couldn't face the thought of trying to find someone else I liked as much. Besides, a cut and blow dry cost me $30 a month, and my husband $15. My first attempts were a little nerve racking, I just didn't have a clue, BUT I kept notes on what I did, which areas I cut to which length. Within three months, I was comfortable, and I haven't looked back. It's been four years now, so we've saved over $2,000 in stylist/hairdresser fees. My advice: 1) be cautious at first, so you don't keep cutting a little more here and a little more there; 2) make notes of what you do, so when you come up with the perfect cut for you, you can recreate it; 3) use a vacuum that has very good suction, it makes a lot of difference (we have a Hoover Wind Tunnel); and 4) remember that hair grows, if you mess it up, it's only temporary.
Customer Review: The novelty never wears off... Summary: 5 Stars
My family has had one of these for a decade now, and saved a ton on haircuts. It was always good for a joke, entertaining to show friends, and provides for a very utilitarian haircut. Oddly enough, there's some almost hypnotic property to the device as well - and its kind of like getting a scalp massage at the same times as your haircut.
I was recently home again and cut my own hair in about 20 minutes. My wife had to trim the neck fuzz, but it was as good a trim as I get when I go to the somewhat unpredictable national chains that charge $12/cut. Take that hair establishment.
I must admit this product isn't for everyone. If you're really serious about your looks, you should probably pass on this. If you don't have a sense of humor - also pass. If being frugal fits in to your style - you've definitely found your item.
