People weren't kidding when they warned that this safe is heavy. I couldn't even get it into my apartment. Luckily, the UPS man was really nice and offered to carry it in for me. One downside was that like others had mentioned, the safe was shipped poorly. The box it was packaged in was falling apart. The bottom almost fell out when the UPS guy picked it up. The box had obviously come open at some point because it had been re-taped (also in a poor fashion). I was worried that the safe was damaged, but thankfully it wasn't. I'm a little disappointed that it doesn't have a handle and is rather large, but at least it will hold enough of my documents. I was pleased to find that my laptop also fits in it, but diagonally. A handgun case fits perfectly. Good quality for the money--let's just hope I don't have to find out if it's really fireproof!Customer Review: Poor packaging!

The item itself would rate a 5, but I had to deduct two stars for Amazon's poor packing job. They used a much larger Amazon box on the outside of the product's own packaging and filled the extra space with crumpled paper. The weak Amazon cardboard arrived ripped & smashed. Inside, the product box was smooshed in on one corner and the fire safe also had a slightly smashed corner - no way to tell if it was there before the item was shipped to me or if it happened enroute. It doesn't look bad enough to compromise the integrity of the file safe, so I will pass on the hassle of trying to return it. It would have been better if they just slapped a label on the product box. The Amazon box just couldn't hold the weight of this item!Customer Review: Great, but..

This safe is a good size, and seems quite sturdy. I have had this safe for about 3 years. Unfortunately, all of the paper items that I placed in the safe grew mildew on them immediately. Since these are items that I wanted to PROTECT from damage, this has turned into an inconvenience. I placed a block of cedar in it some time ago, however the damage has already been done. None of my items were wet or remotely moist when I placed them inside, it seems as thought there was some residual moisture inside the safe when I received it.

I bought this safe after looking at range from lockboxes to real larger combination safes - I needed something to put documents, jewelry, valuables, etc. for safekeeping from nanny, home visitors, etc. - I must say that the lock on this is pretty flimsy - it will keep out nanny, but if anyone really wants to get into this I seriously doubt it would take much to pry the lock off. However, it will keep out nanny and is the right size and price (lockboxes were too small and not much cheaper, and real safes are a lot more $).Customer Review: poor packing

The box looks like it will do the job. However It has one corner smashed so it doesn't look good so I give it three stars. As the other review stated it was poorly packaged in a oversized weak box not suitable for something this heavy.To much trouble to return.
