Customer Review: Great price/performance for a non-fireproof safe

This is a fantastic value for the money -- as long as you're looking for a non-fire rate safe.
After many episodes of watching "It takes a Thief" on television (which makes me now a high-trained security specialist [not]), I realize that most burglars are looking for a quick in-and-out. Most of the time, the thief is out within 15 minutes. I have a house burglar alarm and doubt that the Company would arrive within 15 minutes, so it makes sense that a thief would want to get in and out quickly.
This safe will definitely slow someone down, especially when bolted down. The steel isn't particular thick but it would still take several minutes with a sledgehammer (if the thief brought one) or with a blow-torch to open it -- and it's unlikely that they'll take the time. They'd rather walk-off with the safe itself, so bolt it down well and hide your crowbars in your basement.
This safe is large enough to store all my valuables such as my passports, etc. and even some of my cameras. It's convenient enough that I actually use it -- unlike other combination lock safes that I've had. And the master key means that even if I forget the combo or lose the regular key, I can still open it. The master key is kept in a safe place off-site.
So, buy this, bolt it down as firmly as you can, and enjoy!

What I like best about this safe is the flexibility of the locking system. In its most secure form it requires both entering a code on the keypad to release the lock and the use of a key to open the door. Used in this manner you have something I like to call two factor authentication. I base my two factor authentication scheme on something you know (the code) and something you have (the key). If someone watches over your shoulder and learns the code it will be useless w/o the key. If someone picks your pocket and gets the key it will be useless without the code. (if those two people ever hook up then you're in trouble)
But let's say you don't want to be bothered with the key or the additional security it provides. All you have to do is leave it in the lock. Now the safe works just like the ones in hotel rooms; you enter the code and turn the knob (which in this case looks just like a key) and you're in.
Aside from that, the thing is reasonably well constructed. You can bolt it down or just load it with heavy stuff. You also get a special key that will open the door without the code. It's for when the battery on the keypad dies. Best to put that special key someplace safe (but not in it). There's even a little light on the inside of the door that's almost useful!
For $75 it can't be beat.

My purposes were just for keeping the kids out, and it works well. Nice and easy for us to get into at the same time. I might one day mount it somewhere, I've looked it over and it seems like it would be easy enough to do, but till then it's just sitting in an out-of-the-way place. Feels strong and sturdy enough to protect valuables, at least make life pretty difficult for someone to steal from you.
Update: I've had for about 1 & 1/2 years now, no problems and haven't had any battery issues I've seen others mention. One thing I've noticed is that price is quite a bit higher than what I paid ($75 vs current $109). I liked it for former price but if I needed another I don't think I'd pay current price for this one.

This is one awesome product, when I first recieved this unit I was please how well it was built. Everything came as described, instructions, diagram for mounting, 3 master keys, hardware etc...... Nothing was missing, this safe is sturdy and has no issues what so ever! It's a great small safe for protecting your valuables. Highly recommend this safe to anyone needing to secure items. My only recommendation is to hide this safe in a good spot "or" mount this unit to a wall due to it's small size. It can be easily lifted! 5 stars!Customer Review: really good safe

it is a really nice safe.you enter a code in the keyboard then you turn the key to open it. alot of people dont like that you have to turn a key and type in a code but i do. it is really spacious inside i love that it comes with an extra shelf to put more stuff on. you would want to bolt it to the ground if you dont want it carried away (pretty light). but i do have a complaint its light doesnt help at all but overall its a good safe
