Tools and Hardware Reviews of First Alert PIR720RN Motion Sensing Light Socket

Customer Review: Perfect for Dark Basements
Summary: 5 Stars

I've been using this product for about 15-years and highly recommend it. I have them scattered thru out my very dark unfinished basement so instead of searching with a flashlight to find a pull cord the Motion Sensor immediately turns the lights on as I enter and move about. They turn off within 4-mins so I never worry about them staying on. If you're spending some time in that area, as long as you move about, they will stay on or just wave your arms and they're back on immediately. I truly think every home should have them. I've never had to replace one either.

Customer Review: Wonderfully convenient
Summary: 5 Stars

This is an amazing product. I love it! If they were less expensive, I'd buy five or six. I have one in my basement, where the bulbs are old-fashioned screw-in-to-turn-on types (not pull chains). Yes, I could rewire the basement, but in the meantime, this is the perfect choice. Like many motion-sensing devices, this socket doesn't work with a flourescent bulb; package instructions say to use it only with incandescent bulb. It also can't be used in an enclosed fixture, only a bare-bulb fixture. But for closets, garages, pantries, basements, etc., it's perfect.

Customer Review: So far, So good
Summary: 5 Stars

After reading the reviews on this product I purchased 3 units. I placed them in 2 closets and a laundry room that previously had lights with pull strings. So far I am very pleased with my purchase. They have never failed to function properly. The only negatives that I can see are; you cannot adjust the time the lights stay on, and you cannot use CFL's with these units. Both of these issues were accurately described in the documentation, so they are only my comments, not problems with the units.

Customer Review: Can save you electricity!
Summary: 5 Stars

This can save you electricity if you are one to forget to turn out the light (my husband!) It is also great if your hands are full and you can't hit the switch to turn the light on. We have ours in our outside shed (that's where the light was constantly left on by mistake) and we have another in our attic (with pulldown stairs and no switch to turn light on until you get up there in the dark!) If it would work in our outside light by the door we would be even more happy. Highly recommend this.

Customer Review: Works great
Summary: 5 Stars

I saw this advertised in a magazine for twice the price I got it on Amazon for and installed it in my basement. It works great, and eveyone in the household loves it. It's especially great because in my old house you'd always be struggling to find the pull switch for this light. I may order another one for another area of our basement.

It's too bad it doesn't work outside or with halogen bulbs, but it is advertised as such, and it's still economical to use with low watt bulbs.
