I hated to hear the chirping of low batteries in my old units so I liked the idea of ten year life. It was super easy to install. However, the test portion ( chirp) goes on for about 10 minutes. I thought I did something wrong. Finally, the first one stopped and I released the second one. It caused my dogs much anxiety and they shivered in a corner of the garage. However, not having to change batteries twice a year is a good thing. I put the date on the inside of the units to remind me or future owners of the house when the experation year approaches.
