I can onlt give it a 4 because I haven't had to find out how well it works. This sensor is supposed to detect smoke 30 minutes faster than the other type of alarm. Hopefully I will never have to find out. As for the item, it worked during the testing, was easy to install the battery, and looks so much better on the ceiling than the old alarms. So far, this product hasn't worked, but that's a good thing! When you purchase a smoke detector it is with the hope that you never HAVE to hear it. These smoke detectors do not use radioactive materials and they were an easy install and replacement for the radioactive smoke detectors in my bedrooms. I could not find non-radioactive smoke detectors where I live so I was happy to order three of these units.Customer Review: fewer false alarms

Our previous ionization-type smoke alarm was constantly going off when we ran the dryer down the hall or fried a hamburger in the kitchen maybe 10-15 yards away. Consumer Reports says everyone should have both types of smoke alarm -- photoelectric and ionization -- to be absolutely safe but we were tired of all the false alarms. Since switching to this photoelectric model, no more false alarms. Of course, without a real fire in our apartment, we cannot say definitively how well this model performs in doing its most important work: providing an early warning in case of fire.
