Tools and Hardware Reviews of Frigidaire FAA055P7A Compact Small-Room Air Conditioner with Remote ControlCustomer Review: Great Cooling, Easy to live with Features Summary: 5 Stars
I like this air conditioner for its energy efficiency, excellent cooling capability, easy to live with sound level, air cleaning option with easy to clean filter, and remote control. I need a cooler environment than others in the household and I set up an allergy/cooling room after we had some problems from an indoor flooding disaster and indoor pollution from central ac problems. I also often set the central ac at warmer temperatures and supercool this room when I'm the only one at home. The room is 130 sq ft with 7.5 feet floor to ceiling measurement and approximately 16 sq ft closet which has vented doors. One of the windows in the room has a southern exposure, and the other window is a western exposure off of a screened in porch. I am located in North Central Florida and have owned and operated this air conditioner for about two weeks now. This air conditioner cools and dehumidfies the room very quickly and works well in the energy saving mode with the ceiling fan working at the same time.
It's been easy to sleep with this air conditioner's fan on low and set on cooling mode. On low fan (without compressor going on/off), this air condtioner emits is a steady, white noise background type sound. If the compressor goes on, it doesn't wake me up. Bed is approximately 1.5 feet away from the air conditioner. After it rains, there may be some other light duty noises too. The manual lists the following as normal sounds to be expected from this air conditioner: sound of rushing air, high pitched chatter, gurgle/hiss, pinging or swishing and possibly vibration depending on how and where it's installed. I'd add that I've heard the compressor very briefly knock when stops. Sometimes I cool the room at a lower temperature before setting the fan on low for the night. I run it a lot in auto cooling mode, and I have no complaint about this air conditioner's noise level. This is the first window ac that I've ever owned, so I can't compare to other window ac's. I'm not able to sleep with my air purifier on (Hepa, no quiet or silent mode), but I am able to sleep with this air conditioner on as described.
Customer Review: Quiet & simple Resolution to hot room Summary: 5 Stars
I had a nice, cooled room last night so I am happy! Granted, I've only had this unit for one night yet, but as long as it keeps going, I'm a relieved customer. I researched many a small air conditioning unit to finally decide on this one. The deciding factors were mainly its Energy Saver rating and price, which is comparable to anything out there this size. I already have another Frigidaire unit, much larger/higher BTU's in the living room and also figured to go with what works.
Anyone who doesn't have central heat and air knows that these window units work wonders ONLY in the rooms their situated in. I would set up fans from the LR to face into the other rooms in order to suck some of the cooler air with some success. Worked just fine until the temps got into the 90s, then I knew something had to be done with my BR b/c I cannot sleep in heat! Wanting to only spend around $100, I weighed other reviews & found this unit to be the most consistent, if a bit more in price. It's still on the low-end as far as air conditioners go, but still, nobody wants junk or to waste money! And with Amazon's Prime I received free shipping in two days... can't beat that!
Overall, it was easy to install and cooled the room to a comfy temp for me. Now, noise levels highly depend on the individual. Comparing it to the bigger unit in the LR, this one is much quieter. I hardly could tell when it turned on/off. It has a nice, low hum to it & I couldn't be more thrilled. I expected much worse. So, as long as this unit keeps on giving, I can highly recommend it!
Customer Review: Best AC deal on Amazon....or anywhere else, including your local Wallyworld! Summary: 5 Stars
Despite a lot of negative comments I read before purchasing, I bought this AC because of the great price. It was simple to install, does not sound like a freight train as was described by some, and does a fantastic job of cooling even when it's 100 degrees outside. Just make sure you get one large enough for the area you are cooling., I bought 4 units, 3 different sizes, and all work well in their respective area. Would probably be a good idea to buy 1 size larger than you think you need. I had them shipped overnight for an extra $3.99. Ordered at 3PM one day, were her the next morning at 10 AM. The freight would have been more than the purchase price at many places. I almost forgot.....one of my units had a compressor that was malfunctioning. I emailed Amazon and they shipped another out immediately that I received the next day. I installed it, put the old one back in the carton, and the UPS man came and picked it up. Very easy transaction, no questions asked, and I didn't have to pay for the new unit provided they received the old one back in a certain number of days. I love Amazon! (NOTE: I am using the same review for the 3 different sizes of ACs I purchased, 5000, 8000, and 10,000 BTUs, as they are almost identical in performance.)
Customer Review: Aaaaaah, relief.... Summary: 5 Stars
Our house is over 50 yrs old, no central a/c, and probably not the best wiring. We got this for a very small bedroom (89 sq ft), and chose it because of the high EER and low current draw. We did have to raise the unit up on wood in order to clear the storm window frame. However, there were no difficulties in installation. This a/c has a thermostat, variable fan speed, ionic air cleaner, timer, and energysaver feature. It has now been used for about a month - we got it right before the heat wave - and has been performing well. We keep it on "energysaver", meaning that the unit comes on when the room temp is higher than the set thermostat. On the hottest days (100degF) it came on probably every 10 minutes. Because the room is so small, it cooled the room in 10 minutes as well. The air doesn't become ice cold, but it does cool quite well. It also does a good job of dehumidifying the air. Whether or not the ionic cleaner works, I honestly cannot say. The variable fan speed allows you to keep it as quiet as you need (it's not the quietest, nor the loudest compressor, but really I just want to be comfortable). Very satisfied with this, especially for the discounted price we paid and the incredibly fast and free shipping.
Customer Review: Great Value Summary: 5 Stars
I think this is the best value for 165 sq ft. Inexpensive, efficient (energy star), relatively quiet and does the job.
I am very sensitive to noise, especially sudden sounds, but I could sleep with no problems. When the compressor turns on, it is not sudden, but gradual. If you can sleep during rain, you should have no problems with this unit.
Another complain was water inside the unit. Yes, it is there and all AC's have it. However, it is on the outside and you can only hear (and see) it outside.
It will take you about 30 minutes to install (some assembly is required). The instructions are somewhat confusing, but it is relatively easy - all you need is a screw driver. Comparing to my previous AC, this one is considerably lighter. The only problem I found was a narrow hole under the air conditioner. I am not sure why it is there, but I closed it with a piece of tape (included).
I was planning to buy another unit, but my rooms are either much larger or the windows are too narrow.
