Tools and Hardware Reviews of Frigidaire FAA065P7A 6,000 BTU MSII Air Conditioner with Electronic ControlsCustomer Review: Very Nice Summary: 5 Stars
First off, this air conditioner was delivered about 5 days earlier than the delivery estimate which was awesome. Getting it ready to put in my window was easy and I was able to do it by myself. The only hard part was screwing on the top railing because the top of the air conditioner bowes down a bit and there is padding added to the top rail, probably for insulation, which made it impossible to get the tiny screws to attach to the top of the air conditioner through the padding. In order to get all four screws in I had to peel off the padding. Once I did that, I had no problems and it seems to have no affect on the insulation in my window. The only other thing to watch out for is when you are putting it in your window, be carefull of the back of the air conditioner. The back cover is made out of a metal mesh type stuff and I grabbed onto this and ended up getting multiple little paper cuts on 6 of my fingers. It didn't hurt, but I got blood all over before I figured out where it was coming from. 6 bandaids later and being more careful where I grabbed, the unit was in the window.
My window is smaller than the recommended window size at 20 and 3/4 inches. I left off one of the side panels and it fits in my window just fine. So far I have only used the fan and the energy efficient cooling settings the latter of which cycles the air conditioner off and on. With the energy efficient settings my room gets to be a comfortable cool temp with an outside temp around 97F. I imagine that if I put on the non-energy efficient cool setting it would get even colder. Maybe even too cold. My bedroom is quite large; very close to the max square footage for this air conditioner. It cools both my bedroom and master bath. I also leave my door open a crack for the cats to come and go, and the air conditioner still works fine. This is my first air conditioner, so I don't have anything to compare it to, but for me it is great. I work nights, so it is a big deal keeping my room comfortable during the day so I can get a full 7-8hrs of sleep. I don't know yet how much it will affect my electric bills. Hopefully not too much, but even so, it is worth getting a good days sleep for me. I would definitely recommend this air conditioner.
Customer Review: The best a/c on the market right now. I have 2 and want another! Summary: 5 Stars
What I want from an air conditioner is for it to cool things off fast without making a ruckus. Before I got this I had bought and returned another brand that sounded like a souped up redneck car. It's going to be 90 degrees here today and I'm writing this from my upstairs office with this running. What's to love?
1) It gets COLD. My office is about 400 square feet and it's doing the job.
2) The fan is powerful yet not obnoxiously loud. It's not like you can't hear it, but it's not an annoying loud, either. I'm sensitive to noise and this one doesn't bother me at all. It's the sound of cool air!
3) The compressor thingy isn't loud when it kicks in.
4) ENERGY SAVER rocks! It turns the unit off when it reaches the set temp, and back on as needed. My old units would just keep blowing out air, even nasty humid air when the compressor was off. I ended up having to use a dehumidifier in conjunction with them.
5) We frequently have bad air alerts in the summer where I live, and I like that this unit has an antimicrobial mesh filter, a "clean air ionizer uses negative ion generators and electrostatic filter elements to reduce allergens in the air" and a built in dehumidifier. Sweet!
Basically, it works really well, doesn't cause new problems and will save money on power.
I have the 8,000 BTU unit in my living room. I'm using an old Sears Kenmore in my bedroom and I would love to replace it with this unit because it won't keep me awake.
Customer Review: Great Unit Summary: 5 Stars
We were looking for an A/C unit that we could use during power outages which seem to last from several days to a few weeks during hurricane season. Researched the models and reviews in Amazon and decided on the 6000 BTU Frigidaire unit. We were looking for something that would cool our bedroom and adjacent office, and also be light enough to store elsewhere and install easily when the power went out. We did appreciate all the people who took the time to give their opinions.
Unit came in quickly (as almost everything we order from Amazon does), and after unwrapping it and reading the instructions, installed it in the bedroom window. Installation was easy - no tools or fuss. Except we knew this window was about 8-inches wider than the provided accordion side spacers, so I cut and fit a piece of plywood to fill in the gap. Also used duct tape to fasten the accordion spacers in place, seal the little spaces, keep out the bugs, etc. Turned it on, and it was ever so quiet. After 3 minutes the compressor came on, and it was hardly noticeable. This is one quiet machine, and cooled down the room quickly. Am now trying to decide whether to drill a hole in the bottom of the drain pan as suggested by some of the other reviewers, or wait and see.
Bottom line is this seems to be a great unit and I would recommend it to anyone.
Followup Note: drilled a small hole in the bottom pan for condensate drainage as suggested by several other reviewers. No problems.
Customer Review: Lightweight, efficient, great value Summary: 5 Stars
It just started getting warm here in NY and my 10 year old air conditioner was on it's last legs. I was tired of going to local retail stores and having very limited options and information on what I was buying. I was looking for something very efficient to help offset the recent electricity rate hike here in NY. I chose this model because of the reviews and energy conservation features it offered.
Out of the box the first thing I noticed was how lightweight and compact it was. I'm used to the bulky, hungry air conditioners from earlier in the decade which made installing and removing a two-person event. I was able to lift this into my window with minimal effort in comparison.
I was very surpised to notice that for such a low price, this item came with an ionizer which charges and removes dust particules from the air. Also it has a "sleep" mode which gradually increases the temperature on the unit to coincide with natural changes in temperature so you don't wake up frozen in the morning.
The first night of use with "Sleep" mode and "Clean Air" activated I woke up comfortable and had an easier time breathing. Best air conditioner I've purchased so far, would recommend to friends.
Customer Review: Great product for the money! Summary: 5 Stars
I shopped around a lot before I decided to purchase this model. The reviews were mixed on this unit but I went with my gut and made the purchase. As mentioned by another reviewer, you MUST let the air conditioner sit for 24 hours after it is installed before you turn it on. This is true with all window units. If you don't, you will damage the compressor which in turn makes it very noisy. That's why I had to make this purchase. A family member decided to help me out by installing my old window unit while I was at work. Now that unit is so loud you can't sleep when it s running. Spend some time and put it in the window correctly and use dense foam underneath to absorb the vibration from the unit and it won't be any louder than a pedistal fan.
This AC was purchased to supplement the existing AC on the third floor of my house. If I set the thermostat for the third floor to be comfortable the second floor gets frozen out. With this unit I set the thermostat for the second floor and the window unit makes up the difference on the third floor. The room is approx. 350 sq. ft. which is larger than recommended for this unit but it does an excellent job.
