Tools and Hardware Reviews of Frigidaire FAX052P7A Window Unit Air ConditionerCustomer Review: Cool Running Summary: 4 Stars
I like the air conditioner. I was nervous from reading the reviews that it would be very noisy, but it seems no noisier than any other air conditioner.
I have a "cage" around my window (bars, which are commonplace in city apartments) so I needed something super shallow. This one was far too deep, but I did something that the manufacturer probably wouldn't recommend: I duct taped all the vents that would be inside my apartment and then used insulation around the screens and in the window to make a barrier. I was afraid that this might reduce the effectiveness of the unit, but it has worked fine all summer, even in very hot and humid conditions.
Though I wouldn't mind it being even colder, the BTUs are appropriate and my room is very cold. I would recommend this air conditioner as one that works well and has moderate noise -- even when jury-rigged.
Customer Review: Good for the price Summary: 4 Stars
This A/C is good for the price. I paid $112 for it and I'm satisfied. This is a complimentary A/C to a bigger A/C. The room it's in is about 150 square feet or a little bigger. The best way to operate this thing is to put a wind machine fan in the corner on the same side of the wall as the A/C, slightly above the A/C. Angle the fan on a 45 degree angle toward the direction that the air is blowing out from the A/C (the angle is not back towards the A/C, but almost in the same direction that the A/C is blowing). Tilt the fan slightly back so that the fan will blow slightly upward. Run the fan on low speed or medium at the most, and the A/C on high speed. The fan will help circulate the cool air that's blowing from the A/C and will also reduce humidity. Also, this A/C is not noisy and I see some people say it's loud. It's not.
Customer Review: Mostly great Summary: 4 Stars
This air conditioner is great for small rooms. I hate that it doesn't have a remote control but its a small matter. The only thing that annoys me is the vent that is located on the top of the air conditioner outside. rain just pours right in and does leave, but if you turn on the air conditioner after it's been off during a rainstorm or shortly after, you get this.... watery.... trickily noise. It's rather loud. Once again, small matter. just turn the fan on before it starts raining alot and it's no problem. I think it has to do with water getting in and sitting there but if the fan is running it doesn't have a chance to sit.
Good AC for the price. Just make sure you have some extra wood and old clothes to fit in the window because the unit is obviously small.
Customer Review: makes summer bareable Summary: 4 Stars
For some years now I've lived in this old stone house apartment. During the summer nights my one bedroom turns into an oven. So I picked this AC up because i could not bare another Pittsburgh summer in misery. The price was right and free shipping was great. I am very satisfied. It's only 5,000 btu, but it works great. One review said it was noisy? I don't agree. My only concern is a design flaw. The drain holes are not located in the right place. So water builds up and the fan sprays on the outside window. It doesn't really affect the performace and it only seems to happen on humid days.
Customer Review: Great for the price! Summary: 4 Stars
I purchased this air conditioner for my son who lives in an apartment in NY - for his large bedroom.
Ordered it around 6:30am Monday morning and it was delivered to him Tuesday evening (2 day delivery).
He just turned 19 - put together whatever needed to be put together and popped it into the window. He said it cooled his room off in no time. Worked wonders in a room 12 x 15.
