This Frigidaire FAK124R1V Air Conditioner has a 12,000 BTU cooling capacity. It is perfect for large rooms or rooms where supplemental cooling is needed (Up to 640 Square Feet) It features an EER of 9.5. The variable speed fan and 8-way air direction along with Electronic Controls make it easy to operate and with LVC Technology (Low Voltage Compensation), proper operation of the unit is assured when voltage fluctuates below normal levels. Installing the unit is made easy with the Vertical Mounting Kit and filter cleaning is a snap with the tilt-out filter access feature. The FAK124R1V is 20 1/4- inches in height, 14 1/4-inches in width, and 24 1/2-inches in depth, weighs 93 pounds, and uses 115 Volts AC. It requires a window height of 21 1/2 - 40-inches and a width of 15 1/2-inch. I bought this unit from Amazon because of my years of worry-free Amazon shopping, the Frigidaire name, as well as the particular shape of the unit, as it fits our thin double-hung window (16.5" wide). I expected it to be good, I did not know it would far exceed my expectations.
I have had this unit for three summer seasons, and it has not once disappointed.
It cools three rooms down from a 95 degree humid day amazingly well. My wife is not crazy about the noise of the fan, but it does not bother me, as the trade-off to be comfortable in intolerable hot and humid weather is a good one.
Despite the fact that air conditioners generally "do not go well around corners," I simply turn on the ceiling fan in one room, and it cools off the next room around a wall, and another room which is down the hallway over 20 feet away from the unit. I was thrilled.
Energy saving options are good, although it is always going to cost money to run an air conditioner. The energy saver options reduce fan use during the day (not the condensor), but the sleep mode slowly changes the temperature setting to rise four or five degrees while sleeping, so that does in fact reduce compressor use.
One thing is very important - with this size A/C, per the directions, you really want to ensure that this A/C unit has its own outlet, connected to its own circuit. If not, the unit will not run properly. Also, make sure you buy the right size/BTU A/C for your area - too powerful an A/C will not take enough moisture out of the indoor air to cool properly, not enough power will not reduce the temperature enough, and could freeze the coils, which causes the unit to stop until defrosted. Having owned this for three seasons, and having read many reviews, I believe that most negative reviews probably were the result of users having bought the wrong size A/C, or not having had the required standalone electrical circuit.
Count on two people to install it - it is very heavy.
If you need an A/C for the appropriate size of a 12K BTU unit, and need the shape of this unit, you will be more than happy with this choice.
