Locates circuits without turning off breakers or fuses. Transmitter plugs into a live 120 volt outlet, run receiver prob over bank of breakers/fuses in panel. Dual audible and visual signals indicates the breaker or fuse controlling the outlet. Sensitiveprobe design offers pinpoint accuracy with no adjustments necessary. Build-in battery strength indicator. Impact-resistant Soft-grip housing. Standard screw-in adapter, can also be used to identify light bulb sockets. Uses 9 volt battery (not included).U.L. The unit works great! I was able to find the correct circuit breaker every time, and very quickly. Two hints for successful use: First, this unit is sensitive to noise on the power line, especially the kind that comes from digital power supplies found in computers, home theatre components, etc. To help get a clear reading from the unit, turn these kind of loads off first. The noise can mask the "real" reading. When you get a good reading, you will hear a pulsing tone, and the visual display goes to the maximum reading. The noise typically sounds like continuous buzzing. I was able to use the unit on a circuit with a massive home theatre system running (twin 1600 watt digital sub-woofer amps). It just takes more concentration, and a familiarity with what is noise and what is the tone you're looking for. Second, this is not an auto-ranging unit. You will have to pay attention to the volume of the pulsing tone, and the reading on the visual display looking and listening for the maximum response. When you do so, the unit will find the right breaker. The unit will not be silent for other breakers; it will simply respond less strongly.
