Description of Gardner Bender GRT-500A Receptacle Tester and Circuit Analyzer
Receptacle Circuit Tester, Plug Into Any Outlet & Read Light Pattern To Detect Faulty Wiring In Grounded Receptacles, For Use In 110-125V AC Circuits, 1 Year Warranty, UL Listed, Carded.The GB Receptacle Tester and Circuit Analyzer tests ground fault receptacles to ensure proper wiring. Designed for ease of use, the user needs to simply plug the tester into any standard 3-wire/grounded receptacle (110-125 Volts AC). The tester tests for six conditions including open ground, open neutral, open hot, hot/ground reverse, hot/neutral reverse, and correct wiring. An easy to read succession of yellow and red lights provides indication of circuit status or specifies wiring errors. Easy to read from multiple vantage points--top, side, and bottom--the tester is an ideal choice for personal or professional use. The tester comes with a 1-year limited manufacture's warranty.

This is great to test wiring you have done or to check out the wiring in a shop or home you will be working in.
1) I use it to identify outlets that are live, switched, or on a given circuit in my house.
2) I use it at work where a reversed neutral or missing ground can wreak havoc on sensitive electronics equipment.
3) I used it to check out the wiring in my house before I bought it to verify all the grounds were properly connected. If they were not, the seller by law would have had to fix them.
