With this handy tool, I was able to determine that a light bulb in a recently purchased lamp was faulty and not the lamp switch. The light would repeatedly go out. When I touched the 3-way switch, the light would go on. I placed the tool near the switch, not even touching it and determined that the switch was getting a continued flow of electricty, even when the light bulb would go out.
