Tools and Hardware Reviews of GKI/Bethlehem Lighting 25-Foot Indoor/Outdoor Holiday Light Set with 50 Wide-Angle Mini FlexChange LED Twinkling Lights, Warm WhiteCustomer Review: BRIGHT Incandescent-Like PROPER Colors with No Flicker Summary: 5 Stars
I found nothing better than this particular brand at Target, Walmart, or Lowes. I actually discovered them at a garden center in Fairfax, VA on live display with several other brands. They were sold in plastic bags $24 for a 50-string. I paid the extra because they looked *so* much better.
While the red, green, and blue are fairly on-par with most LEDs out there now, there are four other colors. Amber was actually a clean golden yellow, not green or brown, and purple was a good strong violet tone, not pink or magenta. The "cool white" (around 6000K) and "warm white" (around 3000K) are particularly impressive (and none of these are mentioned on Amazon, despite the thumbnail picture depicting the amber color?). The cool white is darn near blinding by comparison to other "cool" LEDs. This is not the dim teal blue color most "white" LEDs produce. The warm whites actually look just like.. Christmas lights! What impressed me most was the constant light output. No 60Hz flicker, and very bright, deep incandescent-quality colors.
I'll probably keep using them indoors after Christmas. By the end of the holiday I've seen a lot of burned out/very dim LEDs on strings from brands like Philips and GE, which kind of makes the lower price less of an incentive. I like the idea of LEDs because they have this great potential not to become trash after just a couple months. So I paid a bit more this time, here's hoping these last until next season.
