Tools and Hardware Reviews of Gardus RLE202 LintEater 10-Piece Rotary Dryer Vent Cleaning System

Customer Review: LintEater - Excellent Product!
Summary: 5 Stars

Thank you very much for this excellent product.

We have been having problems with our dryer taking forever to dry our clothes and I discovered the vent was jam packed with lint. I attached a small cleaning brush to a "fish tape" of the sort that electricians use and managed to work it through the entire vent. When the scrubbing produced no additional lint, I hooked the dryer back up, but still no air flow. I have about 18 ft of dryer vent hidden in an inaccessible partition between two floors. I could see that about 3 ft at each end was clear via visual inspection. I naturally assumed that I had removed all the obstructions because my brush could travel freely through the vent.

Looking for any info on this problem, an internet search found this product. The web site instructional video is also excellent. Since my only other option was to run new vent or tear out the old one, it seemed worth a try. The flexible rods navigated the vent without any problem and an amazing assortment of lint, twigs, leaves, etc came flying out. Problem solved and our dryer is now running perfectly! To make it even easier to use, I fed the push rod through a two foot metal pipe. While my right hand held the drill, I held on to the metal pipe with my left and this prevented the last push rod from a tendency to twist up on itself.

This product should be sold in every hardware, plumbing and HVAC store. I especially like how thorough the kit is - complete with useful extra fittings and DVD.

Modern dryers will turn off or kill the flame when air flow is impeded. Older models will just continue to run at max temperature - creating a fire hazard. So you might have someone return a dryer as malfunctioning when it is simply a lint blockage.

All in all an elegantly simple and 100% effective product.

Customer Review: A Product That Actually WORKS! Get it!
Summary: 5 Stars

I was looking on Amazon yesterday for a dryer brush because I have been noticing the dryer is taking more cycles to dry. I cleaned out the lint trap and below it that day. However I wanted to get the duct work cleaned out. I searched and found the LintEater system on here. I read the reviews, watched some videos and I was really impressed with it. It looked simple, easy to use and seems to get the job done without much hassle.

I have Prime so I paid the $3.99 for Saturday delivery and it showed up today. I quickly read the manual and got to work. How long did it take to increase my dryers efficiency, decrease my energy usage and have peace of mind knowing my house is not going to catch fire - 10 minutes. Yup. Just ten minutes. You would not believe the amount of lint that came out. It blew my mind. No wonder the dryer wasn't drying like it should. This thing is AMAZING! Worth every penny. It has to be the best purchase I have made in a long time.

Great value. Great product. Excellent videos on how to use it. Something that actually works as advertised. Who would have thought?

The package contents goes up to 12 feet. That was plenty for us. I could have used an extra extension but I was only a foot from the exhaust of the actual dryer itself. I used a cordless drill, set the choke to 10 and away I went. The dryer was also running to blow out the lint that was cleaned. It was snowing LINT! Lol.

Thank you Gardus for a great product! I can't wait to use this again in a few months. EVERYONE should have one of these.

Customer Review: It works!

I bought the Linteater and the 12-ft. extention through amazon.com (I got them separately rather than together as they qualify for Amazon Prime if ordered separately, and cost was comparable versus together). I live on the second floor in a 4-story apartment building, with a vent going to the roof.

I do not have roof access, and I don't own a shop-vac, so I wasn't expecting too much. I figured if I didn't get the brush stuck in the vent, this would be a success!

Well, not only did the brush not get stuck, but I managed to get 1/3 of a small shopping bag of lint out of the duct (that is my weird "trophy" until trash day - haha)! I ran the brush on a cordless drill, going "up and down" to have gravity help get the lint to fall out. I made sure always to run the drill clockwise, and never on "full blast" (it's a variable-speed drill) until the battery started to go (then can blast away)! I was going to use duct tape and pliers as recommended to hold the pieces together, but they seemed solid and I was right - the spinning motion of the drill (again clockwise) kept the pieces from coming apart.

And here's the bottom line - besides reducing the risk of fire, my drying time went down from 83 minutes to 59 minutes. Maybe this isn't as dramatic as others, but again, considering the conditions I have it's not bad (a roughly 30% reduction in drying time)! I'm very happy with these results and would recommend the Linteater to anyone who has a dryer!!

Customer Review: Works like a champ on the dryer vent, not so well on the gutter
Summary: 5 Stars

My wife noticed the drying time taking longer and longer, almost to the point of us kicking the 2-year-old Whirlpool Duet out to the curb. She found this product via a Google search for sources of long drying times. I read the several positive comments and thought it made sense that our vent may be clogged with lint. I had the 15+ foot dryer vent cleaned in less than an hour, including cleaning from the roof (vertical run from the dryer to roof) access and from the garage connection next to the dryer itself. After the cleaning, I swept up a decent pile of lint, just as others had reported. We are both surprised how much better the dryer now works. Drying time was reduced from about 2 hours down to 45 minutes for the toughest-to-dry clothes. I really recommend that you try this before calling the service technician out to tell you that the dryer works fine.

The cleaning system also says it can clean gutter drain spouts. I tried using the flex rods and the special blade attachment provided in the box. It worked pretty well but caught itself on some tight turns and bends. Those rods are not very forgiving if you get them extra twisted, especially on a powerful cordless drill. I didn't have any problems when cleaning the dryer vent with the larger diameter metal tubing. I think this product is best used for the dryer vents as it was designed; make sure you use good common sense and wear your eye protection and keep the drill torque/speeds on the low side.

Customer Review: Got the job done, relatively little blood
Summary: 5 Stars

After 11 years in the house, the dryer wasn't working so hot anymore, and my investigation suggested the vent stack needed cleaning. Problem: my dryer vents through the roof, and it's a pretty long reach. Shop vac didn't do anything. Air hose from compressor didn't do anything except blow a huge amount of dust into the house. Teeny six foot vent cleaner from Walmart got only the first few feet of lint and the stack was still clogged.

I ordered this and the 12-foot extension pack based on the customer reviews and the manufacturer's video. Looked easy, and it was, relatively.

In real life, the procedure is reminiscent of a colonoscopy, luckily with someone(thing) else on the receiving end. Gotta watch out for a few things: if there's too much rod outside the vent, it can whip around and kink up on itself and almost yank the drill out of your hands. Watch out for that. Also, feeding the rod into the vent and pulling it back out is a bit hard on the knuckles, hence the blood. Great adrenaline rush though.

My dryer vent was so clogged with lint it took several passes before the cleaning ceased being productive, and filled half a large trash can with lint. Amazing.

Result: My dryer works great again, my knuckles have healed up, and the colonoscopy imagery has mostly faded away. I'll redo the procedure yearly from now on to avoid the extended ordeal caused by waiting a decade.
