At the time of getting the mask, I was procrastinating a haircut, so naturally the mask was extremely difficult to put on. I stretched it over a milkjug overnight, then with a very wide book the next night. The stretchiness of this old rubber/latex really amazed me. I was eventually able to put it on, and it was surbrisingly comfortable.
The filter is old and genuine looking, complete with russian characters. When I unscrewed the cap, there was a 'whoosh' like opening a bottle of carbonated beverage. I'm seriously considering the purchase of a modern filter to protect against modern NBC threats, although all of the ones I've looked into cost four times more than the mask itself! (Worth noting:MANY GOVERNMENT SITES SAY THIS MASK WILL NOT PROTECT YOU AGAINST ANYTHING!)
The bag is nice and seems to be of good quality, except for a few loose threads that could be trimmed off. The bag opens and closes with two buttons on the top. Same for the two small pockets on the side.
Mine did NOT come with a tin of anti-fog inserts as shown in the picture. Instead, it came with a ww2 replica army can-opener to promote the seller's ww2 surplus items.
I absolutely LOVE the look of this mask. It has that classic 'cold war' feel and vibe. I snapped a picture of myself wearing the mask, and now use that picture as my avatar on some online forums I belong to.
