Tools and Hardware Reviews of Globe 0790401 12/20/26-Watt 3-Way Compact Fluorescent Spiral Bulb (50/75/100-Watt Incandescent Equivalent), Soft WhiteCustomer Review: Zero difference between medium and high Summary: 2 Stars
I bought four of these, as we're changing all our bulbs to compact flourescents and all we had left to change were the 3-ways, but I was disappointed in the light. It's fine ambient light, but three-way bulbs are purchased to have the best of both worlds - ambient lighting when you're sitting around and a good solid light when reading. This light isn't really bright enough for reading - and it's for all intents and purposes a TWO way light, not a three way - I found quite literally NO difference between medium and high. Also, you'll find a lower price at your local discount *mart.
Customer Review: Arrived broken Summary: 2 Stars
For some reason, this bulb was packaged in a snug-fitting thin cardboard carton which offered virtually no protection against breakage. I got a refund, but that hassle could have been avoided if they'd packaged it better.
Customer Review: They listened but still only two ways on a 3 way bulb. Summary: 1 Stars
I purchased 2 of these at Lowes yesterday (February 12, 2011. Apparently the company read the many complaints about the 150 watt setting being no brighter than the lower setting. On both these bulbs, the highest setting is actually pretty bright. Unfortunately, they now can't get the middle, 100 watt setting right. It is actually less bright than the starting 50 watt setting. On both bulbs, there was a slight hesitation before the bulb started on the lowest setting. When clicking to go to the next 100 watt setting, it initially, for about a half second, came on brighter then immediately dropped back to what seemed like the lowest setting. Both bulbs did exactly the same thing in two different lamps. Unacceptable when they claim it is a true 3 way bulb. The package advertises soft white and perhaps it is compared to their plain bright series which I haven't tried. It is definitely not soft by comparison to regular incandescent bulbs but I found it acceptable. It is not nearly as bad as halogen or daytime bulbs which, for me, casts an aesthetically horrible bright hospital like light. All in all, it is not yet an acceptable 3 way bulb.
Customer Review: Useless Summary: 1 Stars
I can't say enough bad things about this product. I bought an expensive three way lamp and was trying to be considerate of the environment by buying a fuorescent bulb. Unfortunately when I first screwed it in, it only worked on the middle wattage. The others flickered beyond usability. I even thought I could live with that, i mean, who really needs three different brightnesses on a lamp, but when I turned it off and tried to go to sleep, I found that it flicked light every 5 to 10 seconds. I even tried to live with THAT thinking it was probably my new lamp. No. I bought a regular three way bulb and it works fine. I then but the bulb in my gym bag to take to the office to send it back. It somehow managed to shatter even with the utmost care and caution so I can't even get my money back and also got a nice little dose of mercury to boot.
I don't know if it was the brand, the lamp being incompatable or what but I don't think I will be trying this again any time soon.
Customer Review: Hums and is more like a 2 Way Light Summary: 1 Stars
This 3-way CFL hummed in every 3-way lamp I own. There is little if any noticeable difference between medium and high. It's also more of a "Soft White" bulb than a daylight bulb at any setting.
The bulb I received was in less than perfect condition. Parts of the white powder inside must of shifted during shipping.
It's hard to tell by the dimensions listed, but this bulb is huge. The base unit is a lot larger than your traditional CFLs.
