Plastic base, metal lamp. Easily adjustable, and holds a lot of my office supplies. Surprisingly bright for such a little lamp! I use it for reading and knitting, which it's perfect for.
Just FYI: Mine arrived slightly scuffed. I'm not sure how. It's on the back of the lamp, though, so I don't see it most of the time.

I suppose if you're a "lamp geek" or engineer, you might know that a GU24 bulb (which this lamp requires) is NOT a standard bulb base, but instead has two posts at the base which lock into the lamp. I, however, did not know this and ordered spare bulbs with standard household bases. It also comes with a bulb, so it's not a critical issue, it's just irritating that we're somehow supposed to know that a part number means non-standard.
Otherwise it seems to be a decent lamp/desk organizer.

I echo the other reviewers' comments about the switch being at an odd location. No matter where I have put this on two different desks it is very awkward and requires leaning down and over the other items that may be around it in order to cut it on and off. Otherwise it is a nice lamp that I can use as the main lamp in my small home office without having to burn the overhead just to read or see my copy as I am typing from it.Customer Review: Good for the Price

This is an inexpensive light and I got the quality that I expected. I agree with the other reviewers on the switch location, but on my desk, it works. It is a very bright light, so don't buy if you want something that could bounce off a computer screen.
