Customer Review: Good night light and emergency power light -- but not so great flashlight Summary: 4 Stars
I had been looking for a while for an emergency power light; the last two brands I bought failed at the first power surge. Finally, I found my light. This 3-in-1 emergency light has two bright LED lightbulbs that illuminate in case of power failure. When plugged in under regular power conditions, the light becomes an automatic nightlight when the room becomes dark. You can also pull it out of the outlet to use as a small flashlight.
Pros: the emergency light is bright enough to navigate through a room or hallway in otherwise darkness; three settings for emergency/night light, for the flashlight, and off; a red light is always on to show that the unit is working; the light does not cover two outlets as some emergency lights do, although the lower outlet is still tight, especially for larger plugs; the nightlight goes on automatically when the room becomes dark; at approximately 4 inches tall and 2.5 inches at its widest, it doesn't draw attention to itself; LED emergency lights are bright.
Cons: if you don't like nightlights, then you'll dislike that you have to use that feature to have the emergency light ready; the flashlight doesn't give enough useful directed light -- you'll be better off activating the emergency light by unplugged the unit even though it won't concentrate the light into a beam; the red "on" light may be distracting.
For me, this has been the best replacement for my old extremely reliable emergency lights that died about five years ago after ten years of service. I've tried others, and hated them. This is the first since those old ones that I think works well. I suggest that you buy one or two to try out yourself before buying enough to outfit a whole house.
