Tools and Hardware Reviews of Live Mouse & Chipmunk TrapCustomer Review: Who has the best mouse trap AND humane disposal to boot?? Summary: 5 Stars
I spent about an hour researching on Amazon for a live/humane mouse trap as well as another 45 minutes on Ebay. This was the result of doing research around my neighborhood after a little field mouse got trapped under my house in the process of replacing the underlining insulation.
I discovered that Tropical Smoothie Cafe uses glue traps whic do not effectively kill mice- at least until they chew through their legs, starve, or dehydrate to death first. Not to mention what an awful cry they make until they do pass!
My Hubby has heard stories about the snap trap not always killing the mice, just breaking their backs so same scenerio as above.
The poison bait takes hours for effect. We were told that they eat some of the bait, get thirsty and die upon drinking fluids with almost immediate death and little pain. I read that the same poison, if ingested by a dog can cause him to slowly bleed to death, only intervined by an injection of vitamin K.
We had the same mouse chewing the same bait trap for two nights. I could hear her chewing on it while I was in bed so that is why I chose to look up the live trap info.
I read up on all of the feedbacks and comments left by others -which thank yo everyone on here for your feedback, it really does help!
After checking out all of the live traps on Amazon, I found that this one had the least problems, easy to assemble, no mouse appendages being caught/cut off, no false alarm, we caught that little girl with in the first night, the trap closed while she was in there.
We think she was the only mouse in our house. After dropping her off to the nature preserve, we set up the trap again just incase she had any room mates = )
We will see what happens.
Call me a hippy- well I guess that will be military hippy, but mice can feel pain and experience suffering too, I feel better about disposing them this way. No stink, no mess, no pain-but all gain = )
If you are looking for a good humane trap,
HERE YOU GO !!!
Good Luck!
Customer Review: Fool Proof Summary: 5 Stars
This thing works GREAT for mice. I haven't used it to catch anything else, but for mice it is the absolute best trap I've ever had. EVERY time I set it, it catches a mouse, and usually within a few hours. I've owned it for about 9 months and have caught EVERY mouse that's entered my home since then.
I live in the woods and there are a lot of mice around here. I've tried to mouse-proof my little abode, but somehow they keep finding their way inside. At first I tried standard traps but really hate those things. They're unreliable and sometimes maim the mouse instead of killing it, and I really hate that. I decided to go the no-kill route, but the first one I bought (cheap plastic one) never worked right. The mouse would somehow trip it but wouldn't get caught.
Then I found this one. I didn't really want to spend $22 on a mouse trap, but I was sick to death of mouse droppings and I was afraid they would start damaging my home. So I bit the bullet and bought it. Best $22 I ever spent. Now I just catch the little buggars and set them free again alongside a creek about a mile away.
Besides flawlessly catching mice, it's built in such a way that it will last forever (all metal, no plastic). I did modify one thing though. It has a metal platform where you put the bait, and the bait would slide off of it, so I cut a little piece of cardboard to sit on top of that platform, which solved the problem. Also you have to put the bait toward the back of that platform, otherwise the mouse might be able to get the bait without stepping on the platform and tripping the gate.
For bait I just use a little breakfast cereal. Honey Bunches of Oats works great.
If you're sick of mice and traps that don't work, get this. You won't regret it.
Customer Review: Humane Trap Summary: 5 Stars
I am a rat (not a human) and I would like to express my gratitude to Maine Supply for its product, which enables humans to capture rats without causing any life-threatening injuries. I was caught by this trap and came out unharmed.
LONG STORY: I am a street rat, who grew up in a city park, but I was always looking for ways to improve my life and eventually found way into the basement of a single-family house. I stayed there for a year, in that spacious warm basement, and ate leftovers from the plate of a poodle, who lived in the same house and did not mind sharing food.
Sadly, the life of prosperity made me careless. I forgot the caution of a street rat and started going for snacks during the daytime. Eventually, one of the humans spotted me, and then bought this very rat trap and set it in the basement. Of course, I saw that it was a trap and quickly learned to get the food out of it without setting off the spring. The humans were putting new food every evening and now I could eat without leaving the safety of the basement.
A week later, I overheard conversation between the humans and learned that they were about to hire pest control. One of them mentioned that those pest-control mosters would kill me. I had no choice but to turn myself in. The next night, I intentionally set off the spring of the trap. The humans took me to a park and released me there.
The life in the park is hard and I feel like an immigrant from a third-world country who was unexpectedly deported. I have to scavenge for food and stay away from raccoons and stray cats. Still, I am happy to be alive, and I greatly appreciate the gentleness of the humans who released me unharmed, which is so unlike them. I hope that others will also use humane traps like that against my kind.
Customer Review: No more mice! Summary: 5 Stars
I have a problem with killing an animal just because it was doing what it was born to do. So when I found that all of a sudden my garage was starting to look like a sound stage for Willard, I knew I needed to do something. The mice exercising their squatters rights in my garage were clever enough to grab anything in the tunnel-type of humane trap I had without getting caught, so I needed something better. After reading the reviews for several types of humane traps, I chose this one. I baited it with the bird seed that came with the trap and within a half hour, I found two field mice inside. I took the trap and drove to the local river walk and released them by the river, far away from houses. When I got back, I baited it again, this time with peanut butter and again, caught two mice. After relocating them to the same area I decided not to bait it again because it was getting late and I was done driving for the day. Each time I baited the trap, over the next day or so, I found critters in it. Finally, the captures slowed down and then ended. It's been a couple of weeks now and no more mice. I have heard rumors of little mice family reunions being held by the side of the river, but I can't substantiate them. Seriously, this is an awesome trap. It's easy to bait and you don't need a PHD to figure it out. Additionally, the vendor is top notch. My order went out immediately. I wouldn't hesitate to use them again...hopefully for something else the next time.Havahart 1020 Two Door Cage Trap for Mice and Rats 10 x 3 x 3
Customer Review: Best Trap Ever for small critters & doesn't harm them Summary: 5 Stars
I never used a trap before (so maybe I shouldn't say "best trap") but I know this is a really, really good trap. First of all, it is simple to operate. Second of all it WORKS! Like really, really, works. Thirdly, it doesn't harm the critters once caught.
I was having trouble with chipmunks setting up a little family in my backyard and, of course, I have many squirrels eating my seed out of my feeders and gorging themselves...the birds got only a fraction of the seed. I decided to go after the chipmunks as they were digging up our plants, bulbs, etc. and I heard they can cause real problems around the house and garden.
For bait I used a small handful of sunflower seed and some peanut or nut mix. Although I was after the chipmunks, so far I caught 1 chipmunk and 3 squirrels. When they are caught, I put on gloves just in case, simply lift the the cage by the large 'U" shaped thing on the door of the cage, put the cage (with animal inside) in the trunk of my car and drive to a park about 2 miles away and release them.
I highly recommend this trap. Especially if you are a novice and don't want to really hurt the critters but just want rid of them.
