Summary: 5 Stars
This is a wonderful book! It is a great read to me, or read with me book! It offers a unique perspective on giving. It teaches that without balance there is no reward in giving for either the giver or the receiver. It shows the child that by taking without limits brings no happiness, and only creates a hunger for more. It also teaches the child that giving without limits has it's consequences to the giver.
Overall it is a great story with a good moral lesson. My children absolutely loved this book! It will remain on our bookshelf for a long time to come!

The Giving Tree gives a little boy everything he could give. The tree
gave apples, leaves, and branches as the boy got older. Yet, nothing the tree gives the boy makes him happy no matter how hard he tries. However, in the end the boy needs only a stomp. I guess the moral of the story is that in the beginning and in the end we will need very little. In summary the boy describes our life- when young we have plenty of time to do the simple things like climb trees, but as we get older we need to make money and have a family.

This is an awesome book to read to students during Thanskgiving and Christmas time to remind them to be thankful for what they have and to not always expect things in return. Its a great book to read year round to simply remind people that to be appreciative and to apprciate the people who always give and never receive.
I gave this book as a gift to someone who always gives until she has very little left for herself, and she still finds room to give her reserve.

Book was purchased for a young woman having her first baby. She is painting a mural on the baby's room wall of The Giving Tree. This was one of her favorite stories growing up, so I added it to her shower gifts. It's a very dear story of love. Shel Silverstein uses such little words that tell you so much! Especially in The Giving Tree. I love how the little boy grows up and the Tree tries to give him all that he asks for, but she just can't! I love how Mr. Silverstein made the Tree character so she would be like a mother to him. I suggest if you are between 4 and up you would love this book!
