Tools and Hardware Reviews of Holmes HAOF-90UC 10-Inch 3-Speed Blizzard Table Fan

Customer Review: Good for casual use, not everyday 24/7 use
Summary: 3 Stars

I bought this fan to circulate the air in a 4' x 4' horticulture growing area. It is wall mounted and left on 24 hours a day in oscillation mode on low speed. After a month or so it began to quit oscillating and make a popping noise, like the gears that enable oscillation were not catching. I tried to tighten the screw that retains the pull that starts/stops oscillation and it has helped some but it still randomly happens.

I know its new and I can send it back for warranty repair but I threw away the box and with shipping costs back to them etc, its just not worth it. I think this may be a good example of why its better to buy some things from a local store where you can easily return it if you have a problem.

I know Holmes has a good reputation and the fan is powerful as all get out so maybe my constant 24/7 requirements were just too much for it.

Customer Review: Yes, it is really loud!
Summary: 3 Stars

I can attest to what many of the other reviewers are saying: at its lowest setting, this fan is very loud! I suppose you can think of it as white noise, but it's almost loud enough to go beyond that. If you turn the fan up to medium or high, it gets even louder, but really, I don't see any reason to go above the already-powerful low setting in an office or home office setting.

One or two other reviewers have stated that the fan is quiet. Perhaps there is a quality control issue and it depends on the individual fan you end up with.

On the plus side, the fan really does get the air moving. It has a three-year warranty, which is better than a lot of the cheaper or "no-name" fans. I'm keeping this fan. I wonder if it will last 18 years, like the one it's replacing. Remember to check back in 2025 and I will let you know!

Customer Review: Like other reviews, it is just too loud
Summary: 3 Stars

It does what it is supposed to do - push air... and this it does quite well. Unfortunately, I bought this fan to use at work and the noise is just way too much. At three feet away and pointing away from me, clients on the phone asked me if I was in some sort of tunnel. The noise prevents this fan from being desirable. Like other reviewers mentioned, it would work great if used as combination fan / sound machine.

Customer Review: LOUD!
Summary: 3 Stars

I bought this fan to block out city noise while I sleep, and it does its job, but the low setting is LOUD!! I can't imagine having it on the high setting for anything. It took me a few weeks to get used to it. If you don't mind noise, or want something to block out the noise, this is perfect, otherwise, look for a fan where the low setting is actually low!!

Customer Review: Too loud for the bedroom
Summary: 3 Stars

This could be ok for an office, or maybe a busy kitchen, but I wanted something to circulate the bedroom air at night. Although this did the job, the noise couldn't be ignored. After trying an array of other small fans as well, I ended up putting in a ceiling fan, and am glad I did. On low, the ceiling fan is absolutely inaudible.
