Tools and Hardware Reviews of Holmes HM495-UC Ultrasonic Medium-Room HumidifierCustomer Review: Use a water jug! Summary: 5 Stars
For all of you having trouble filling the tank, try using a plastic water jug! It's much easier! Bet you never thought of that! (The only reason I thought of it was because I use distilled water!) Distilled water makes a huge difference in helping to keep the unit cleaner longer. Thank goodness, NO FILTERS TO REPLACE!!!
Customer Review: I really like it... Summary: 5 Stars
I am quite satisfied with this humdifier...we have two now and they are working fine. No leaks. Very quiet. Love that I can see the fog coming from the machine...a good visual. :) Anyway, I also love the no filter factor. The tank of water lasts a long time running at half speed.
Customer Review: Love it! Summary: 5 Stars
I went through 3 humidifiers until I finally found this one. My mom had the same one so I knew it was good before I bought it but couldn't find it at any local stores so tried to find something that compared. I couldn't. The humidifier is extremely quiet.

Customer Review: Breath Easy, Save $$$ Summary: 4 Stars
What the product information listed here and the manual do not state, is that this humidifier only uses 48 Watts of power (it's 120 Volt and 0.4 Amp). Warm mist humidifiers are typically 300 Watts or more, so by using an ***ultrasonic*** unit you can really save on your energy bill. Needless to say, humidifying your living space will save money on heating bills as well, since humidified air FEELS warmer than dryer air at the same temperature, so you can keep your home thermostat set lower. Also, there are the health benefits to breathing humidified air: you'll breath easier, and your skin won't dry out as much. It's also healthier for your pets in the winter months.
Other ways to humidify your living space would be to have some plants in your home, leaving some pans of water out, and even occasionally lightly mist-spraying your carpeting/walls with a spray bottle.
This particular product has been criticized for putting out mist that settles to the floor. However, that is exactly what cool air/mist does (cool air settles and warm air rises). But that mist will rise when it is heated by warmer air within your house, and the moisture that is collected on the flooring of your home will evaporate and then the moisture will then be distributed into your home. Move the unit around so that you don't get a big collection of moisture in any given spot. Remember, this humidifier is doing it's job, it's doing exactly what it was designed to do. Now it's up to you to understand how it works, and to use it accordingly.
I rated this humidifier a 4 and not a 5 because I would like to have seen it shoot more volume of moisture into the air at the highest setting. However, this is adequate.
