Tools and Hardware Reviews of Holmes HM495-UC Ultrasonic Medium-Room Humidifier

Customer Review: I'm buying another!
Summary: 4 Stars

This is a great humidifier, but it has a few quirks ( that's why the 4 stars).

I fill mine in the tub (it doesn't fit in a small sink) which is closer to the bedroom than the kitchen anyway. I wish the water reservoir was shaped differently so you could set it down. The shape is awkward.

The blower isn't quite strong enough and it doesn't blow the moisture far enough away so unless you have some sort of air circulation (fan, ceiling fan, air purifier)to move the moisture, it will work, but it will settle around the unit and get everything wet. ( I keep a vinyl placemat under it on the dresser and have had no problems as long as there is air circulation)

I love the large water reservoir, no filters! and it is very quiet and easy to clean. The amount of moisture is adjustable and when I need a lot,( we have asthma and live in the desert) it sure can kick it out.

I am getting another one for my other childs bedroom.

Customer Review: Good Product
Summary: 4 Stars

This is my second Holmes Ultrasonic. I've had the first one in my bedroom for the past three years, and it works so well that I got another this year for my living room.

The unit is quiet and adjustable, putting the amount of moisture into the air that you want. At low speeds it is virtually noiseless. So much so that my wife has more than once asked me at night, "Is the humidifier on? I don't hear it." (And it always was.)

I keep these units running at about three-quarter speed, and, even in the living room, it's quiet enough to still listen to the stereo or the TV.

It's a simple unit, moderately easy to clean as humidifiers go (all humidifiers in my experience are somewhat difficult to clean), but just a bit cumbersome to fill, which I see as a minor inconvenience.

It would get five stars if the price were about 20 percent cheaper.

Customer Review: Great for the price
Summary: 4 Stars

I already have a Vornado humidifier, but bought this one because I was tired of buying and storing replacement filters. This humidifier is extremely quiet. If you listen carefully, you may hear a slight trickle as the tank drains, but the blower is inaudible. The tank is very capacious. I run it on high all day and night and only refill it twice a day. I've been very happy. It only gets four stars, though, because it's a bit underpowered. The vaporizer is capable of producing a lot of steam, but the blower can't push it far enough into the air. If you run the unit on the highest setting, you must place it on a raised, waterproof platform so that the water doesn't settle to the ground. If Holmes had included a more powerful fan, it wouldn't be a problem. For now, I have a fan pointed at it to mix the steam with the air.

Customer Review: Working great so far
Summary: 4 Stars

This type of humidifier works ultrasonically, which is very quiet and puts out a lot of moisture. The vibrating membrane that creates the mist does get clogged over time with minerals if you have hard water. It can be cleaned to a point, but eventually it might stop misting. You will find a fine layer of sticky mineral gunk all over the room (on any exposed surface), unless you have soft water. There are additives you can put in the water to minimize this. Small rooms may get too humid unless it's on the lowest setting. We have been pleased with this one so far.

Customer Review: One of last years purchases from Amazon
Summary: 4 Stars

Holmes HM495-UC Ultrasonic Medium-Room HumidifierRead the other reviews, folks have some good observation; great for the price, quiet, does leave white dust like they all do. Even with distilled water. Med-high gets good mist without the spill issues. It is difficult to hold while filling in the sink. Still, I would advise purchase and would buy again myself. The design of the unit is nicer than most, it's why I chose it over several comparible in cost units.
