Tools and Hardware Reviews of Duracraft DY-012 Oscillating 3-Speed Tower FanCustomer Review: Space saving and quieter than I expected Summary: 5 Stars
The fan comes in three pieces and a couple screws. The base is made up of two semicircles that snap together around the power cord which comes out of the bottom of the fan unit. The base screws into the fan to hold everything together. It does wobble a bit when you touch it, but it stands up just fine on its own.
There's an indentation on the back of the fan near the top which acts as a handle. One big plus is how easy this fan is to move and reposition compared to a regular top-heavy floor-standing fan.
To me, it sounds about as loud as any normal oscillating fan, but it probably moves a little less air. It's also pretty short compared to a tall oscillating fan. If you place it against a door, it comes up to about the height of the door knob (see my picture in the gallery above). It rotates less than 90 degrees, probably about 70 degrees.
When I first started up the fan, there was a slight rattling noise, but it went away after the fan picked up speed and now I don't hear it at all anymore. Aside from that, I haven't heard any other odd noises from this fan.
I've been using this fan for about 10 hours a day for the past few weeks without problems. I usually keep it on the lowest speed, oscillating all night, positioned about 3 feet away from the foot of my bed. It pushes enough air to actually make me cold after just a few minutes.
Overall, it's a great buy, although I thought it was a bit pricey.
Edit: I've had this fan for over a year now, and it's still going strong. Every once in a while, I'll get a light rattling noise from it that goes away on its own after a few minutes.
Customer Review: Does the job! Summary: 5 Stars
Living room gets hot in the afternoon sun, needed help bringing the cooler air from the bedrooms into the living/dining area. Got the fan today, took 5 minutes to put together (perfectly packaged, screws included). Unlike other reviews, I have had no problems with wobbling, although I did take extra care to ensure both base pieces lined up evenly and tightened the screws down as hard as they would go. Plugged it in and it does just what it's suppose to do. Moves cool air into our warmer rooms. We have 1600 square feet of space, half of which is kitchen/dining/living not getting cooled in the afternoon here in the south. Not a problem any more. For our small space, it wasn't worth the extra $$$ for the remote control, glad we opted for this model. Already feel we got our $30 worth of value in this air mover, not having to crank down the a/c to unreasonable and more costly levels. Great supplement to the a/c for summer. And, it's quiet! Would recommend!
Customer Review: I might get one for each room Summary: 5 Stars
I read all the reviews on amazon, and was concerned about people complaining because of the broken motor. Well.. I also know that if something goes wrong, people will definitely write a bad review, versus if everything goes well, they might not write a review.
So here is my story: This fan works GREAT !
It is very easy to assemble.
The oscillation is wide enough to cover a large angle.
It blows more air than a regular fan.
Finally, since I received this fan, I turned off my AC at night and never turned it on since ! My room is chilly in the morning.
I would say it's a good investment, and I will probably get one of those for each bed room I have in the house.
Customer Review: Moves tons of air with a whisper! Summary: 5 Stars
This tower fan gets a good breeze moving through almost any room without causing a ruckus. I keep the fan on low most of the time, but the fan isn't too noisy even when set to high.
"Assembly" is a snap (the entire procedure involves attaching the base to the tower with a couple screws).
This is probably the quietest fan I've owned in years. A couple of weeks after I bought the fan, I noticed a small bit of squeaking when the tower was set to oscillate, but the squeaking stopped after a few days.
I would heartily recommend this tower fan and will probably buy a couple more next summer.
Customer Review: Works Great! Summary: 5 Stars
I purchased this fan to replace a larger and more noisy one in my bedroom. So far, it is working just fine and is very quiet. It was easy to put together as well. Before purchasing, I read some of the feedback and noticed some people mentioned the base being somewhat unsteady. I understand where the comments came from and mine does have a little movement to it as well but it does not affect the operation at all. It is just a result of the design. The base is secured with screws and will have a little wiggle room regardless of how tight you get it, but overall it is plenty secure. I think this is a great value.
